Answer all the questions you know for sure. Skip over the ones you don’t and come back to them later. Always assume the questions are about steam unless they state it’s about hot water boilers. Never leave any unanswered. Good luck!!

Why bunker C for grade 6?
@BoilerBen
@BoilerBen 3 ай бұрын
Bunker C is a term leftover from the naval days of bunkers filled with coal used to fuel the Scotch Marine boilers. The ships were eventually converted to fuel oil and the Bunker C was used to describe the heavy class 6 oil. Thanks for watching!!

Thank you for your comments and congratulations on your work as a mechanical engineer! The formula for boiler horsepower that I refer to is only for the purpose of establishing guidelines for license requirements. It is not intended to be used to determine the boiler horsepower capacity. I am only a trained boiler operator and not an engineer so I will let those trained in determining exact horsepower capacity formulas for boilers to others trained in engineering. Thanks again!

He successfully passed his boiler exam 🎉and would like to further his understanding our specific boiler, as these systems are complicated!! Would you ever consider a trip to Mpls. to provide direct instruction? He'd be humbled by your presence and I'd love to gift him such an amazing experience! 🙏🏻Thanks

I was severely sleep deprived due to multiple 16 hour shifts in a row when I left my previous comment, so all y'all ignore it, please. Ben, I apologize for being rude. You have an excellent channel and I'm learning a lot from your videos. I work in a small high pressure plant but a lot of things seem to be the same so far, and since I don't currently have any other training materials (but ordered the high pressure version of the books you recommended) and work my shifts alone, it's really helpful to have good information on boiler basics. I've only watched a few videos so far, then stopped to wait for my books. Thank you again for creating and sharing this resource, and have a great day! -- Bekah

You are right that there are many similarities between high and low pressure. Remember with steam boilers anything above 15 psi is considered high pressure. And for hot water boilers anything above 160 psi or above 250 degrees F is high pressure. I think you have the right book to help you. Best of luck!!

Thanks for watching! This is a question that I’ve been asked before. There are many similarities between high and low pressure boiler operations. But since I have a high respect for experience I think it best to stay with low pressure as that is what I have operated for many years. American Technical Publishers have several very good high pressure books that would be of great benefit to you. Best luck getting that 2nd grade boiler license.

I do not have any video on the cooling chapter. The information in that chapter is very good and you will notice that there are similarities between boiler systems and chiller systems. Chillers do not have the same explosive concerns as with boilers however. Thanks for the questions!
