Thanks for this video.. its 2024, I stumbled to this great video.... my doberman has a left side lazy ear... she is 9 months old. I started this method this week so we shall see. My question is how long do I leave this cotton swap/ nasal strip in at a time... 1 week or 2 weeks or longer? this method is much better and cleaner then the in-ear posts. I hope this message find you well and you or any of the doberman owners can share their experience with your method. Thank you so much.

I'm glad it's helping you. I replaced them every 3-4 days. You can leave anything attached to the skin for much longer - skin will begin to rot. So changing it regularly will keep skin healthy without scars. Good luck!

@@DobermanBlog ok.. thank you.. I did not use athletic tape for that reason, I used the breathable type. Will take note on the duration. Take it off and then after 1 hour or so put it back on. Thanks again and will report back 🙂

My Doby has these and he wont lay on anything but the floor. If I give him a soft bed he eats it. So I bought him two k9 ballistic beds and he wont use them lays beside them. He wont let me wrap it.. he will bite his skin off if he has to get it off. This is why we failed and posting his ears. No matter what we did he would rip them off. Ughh it’s so frustrating and he has to be in pain. He would never let me put this on him he would move and rip it off as I am putting it on. I don’t know what to do. He is off leash trained and everything. He just wont sleep on a soft surface he likes the wood and tile floor and he wont let me put anything like this on him.

Thanks I need to try using a pipe. My GSD I get him to mouth the dumbbell handle but doesn't hold it. If I don't hold his chain he tries to run away with it, or prefers to mouth it away from me as he knows I'll take it off him

He needs to know the dumbell is not his toy. That's why using a pipe helps. It's not a fun toy to play with. Good luck!

8 years later and your video is still helping lots of people! Thank you so much! My dog was just put on the drug Proin for urinary incontinence (she's almost 13) which can cause elevated blood pressure. I asked the vet to check her BP before we left the office so I had a baseline to compare to ($54 cost, wow!) It was quite high 190s / 120s. She just recently had blood work done, all normal, so likely due to being excited at the clinic. Vet mentioned a normal top # (systolic) should be under 160. It's so great to be able to check her BP at home (for free!) and get a more accurate reading, and keep a close eye on her. Was glad to find your easy tutorial :) Thanks again!

I’m confused why you start with the dog making eye contact heeling, but then place the ball under your armpit? Rewarding from under the arm is generally a different heeling target, with the dog looking straight up into the armpit, rather than into your eyes.
@DobermanBlog
@DobermanBlog 10 ай бұрын
This ball placement helps the dog learn the proper body position. The dog can make eye contact being in front of you. But you want the dog make an eye contact and be at your side, right? And even more - you want the dog shoulder to align with your leg, while he makes an eye contact. That's what the ball placement helps you do.
@deanbalouris330

@@DobermanBlog All of my past dogs heeled making eye contact, but the downside of that was that I was constantly having to reinforce correct position, with some of them crowding, while others wanted to crab across my body. This year I started a female Malinois puppy, and I am teaching her to position her head straight up looking at my armpit. What I see is that it is easier for her to maintain correct position and the slightly exaggerated posture creates a more stylized picture with the dog prancing as she heels.

@@deanbalouris330 This is exactly right. Positioning the toy under the arm pit - helps them learn the right body position.

What are pressure sores? I see one on my puppy about same spot
@DobermanBlog
@DobermanBlog 11 ай бұрын
Pressure sores are caused by laying on a hard surface - wooden floors, cement, porch, etc. It causes skin damages and can lead to inflammation as shown in the video. It is better to keep your dog laying on a soft blanket or dog bed.

1. It's easier if you hold the roll the other way, it's upside down 2. The cast padding first, then the rolled gauze 3. If the toes are broke, the toes should be covered

Teaching dog correctness in jumping with rounded back is important especially when the dog reaches 2 years of age when and you are allowed to do xrays for your K9 in the USA! These xrays are important at 2 years of age. I think you can do in Germany at one year of age!

In my training I try to appeal to a dog's intelligence. Rather than create obstacles hoping he develops muscle memory. Also, with Dobermans I had - I noticed that creating obstacles just makes them go at it harder to overcome the obstacle, rather than learning to avoid it. Thank you for your comment!
