Have you heard of Origin Materials? One of their products is Hydrothermal Carbon (HTC) from bio feedstock, which has been used to create high quality carbon black.

Hi Dan, thanks, yes of course I have heard of Origin HTC, but I do not find a lot of information about it. Renewable carbon is best for CO2 mitigation due to the negative scope 3 value of carbon capture! The challenge with biocarbons can be that their surface is inside the material in form of pores rather than external like with carbon black. Greets from Berlin!

💃 The carbon black in the red dress Are you listening to me, Neo, or are you looking at the carbon black in the red dress? For some, the thought of post-processing recovered carbon black to true furnace carbon black is as seducing as the red lady in the Matrix. But beware, as in the MATRIX, things are not what they appear like. Even if you would get rid of carbonaceous residues and inorganic contaminations, you were still left with a mixture of furnace carbon blacks, not with a single prime furnace carbon black. While chemical post-processing of recovered carbon black will be required sometime in the future, nowadays I rather recommend producing a low volatile, consistent quality, normal recovered carbon black. #recovered #carbonblack #industrialisation

There was no lack of CB in 2023 /24 because the rubber industry was soft. The supply gap was 200 ktpa instead of 600 ktpa. But it could become tight in 2030!

Hello Asif, the levers to reduce organic volatiles on rCB and hence increase toluene transmittance are the same for all pyrolysis reactors, you can increase temperature, increase dwell time, increase mixing within the reactor or decrease crumb size of the feedstock. Greets from Berlin

How can we make n-110 Carbon Black

Hello Subham, N110 carbon black can only be made with the furnace process. Yield will be highest with coal tar distillate feedstock and with best available technology your yield will be about 67%. N660 can also only be made with a furnace process. While you cannot make N660 grade carbon black with a tyre pyrolysis process, you indeed can substitute N660 with recovered carbon black of high quality. Best wishes from Lisbon / Portugal!

Since April 2023, the industry of course has progressed and moved on. There is ongoing work in rCB specifications and it will be interesting to see who will implement the first rCB grade classification system, the tire industry or ASTM D36.70. Some companies have finally received funding in 2024, some companies have started construction of their industrial facilities, while other companies have started operation. This industry remains to be very dynamic. I really recommend to join the global rCB communities at the Smithers conferences in Qingdao, China, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands! Thank you for your comment! Good point, I would not have realised this as I have a paid KZbin subscription and hence do not hear the advertisements. It seems to be like in the TV were broadcasters ramp up the volume for the advertisements? I could check the audio level of ads and increase video audio levels accordingly on next occasion.
