kinda scrary the potential these have for harmful purposes. in the 60's, the Aum Shinrikyo cult responsible for the Japanese sarin gas subway attack was also planning another terrorist attach in whoch they would spray the drug LSD over Tokyo during rush hour using crop dusting planes. fortunately they were stopped prior to this, but having a commercially available drone thats cheaper, smaller, and more accessible than an actual crop dusting plane lowers the barrier to entry for something simular to what Aum Shinrikyo was planning.

Oxymoronic statement ‘were carbon negative, were battery powered.’ There is no such thing as something from nothing; energy is generated either directly (coal/oil/natural gas) or indirectly (solar/wind) which can only be produced using the direct energy for their production and lifecycle up keep. Good thing farmers don’t handle physics for a living.

@fever417428 күн бұрын
The benefits to the farmer are definitely where it excels. If you’re totally invested in the system, you’ll use the DJI agras software with one or more sprayer and one imaging drone. The way it works is it creates a multi spectral map (NVDI) of the field, which measures the light reflecting off the plants to guage plant health. This then syncs to the sprayer drone, which autonomously sprays in the most ideal pattern, whether that be fertilizer, pesticide, anything. The drones thrust creates a better product dispersion and is very precise, so it uses a lot less product. The variable cost is much cheaper but the fixed price is definitely an investment - though depending on what your time is worth, it saves a ton of that, since you just press a button and it goes.

Fun fact about carbon negative. Not to say this company does this. Is that you can buy carbon credits to become carbon negative or reduce your carbon footprint. That is our government. You can pay them off.

Not to mention the hours on the drone to mage the battery carbon nuetral, should be around 200,000 hours givenor take.
@DroneConflict28 күн бұрын
Part of your ocmment is true, but is a bit of a misrepresentation here. Kinda like you learned about carbon credits on a tiktok and didnt follow up to get an actual understanding of how they work.
@kaydenbrunssen425028 күн бұрын
@@DroneConflict I learned this from the corporation I work for. This is how they do it. Sure I don't understand the whole process. But you still can buy carbon credits.
@DroneConflict28 күн бұрын
@@kaydenbrunssen4250 gotcha. Well you are correct in that, but I guess the part that got left out is that usually these credits are limited and calculated using environmental models. Im not denying that likely these models are skewed to allow more pollution than they should, but usually the goal is to calculate so that the pollution created is able to be managed/cleaned. Secondly, these credits are disbursed a few different ways. Some are bid (making it cheaper for competitors that are able to produce with less or no pollution) and others are granted to NGOs/agencies that take on the responsibility for the cleanup--essentially getting the companies that than buy those credits to pay for the cleanup. Credits is not a perfect program, but it is really just an economic tool to limit pollution and internalize the costs of pollution to the the pollution in the short term while better environmental methods are produced

So an airplane can spray hundreds of acres a day. the drone looks like it holds about 8 ounces of chemical. So it might be able to do 1 acre in a day.........
@kelsongardner610528 күн бұрын
But drones would also be cheaper than planes, so you could buy more drones for less than a plane, right?
@mattholmes821428 күн бұрын
You could also set up the drones to be automated. Modern GPS tracking could ensure complete, even coverage without excessive chemical use.
@KC4R201828 күн бұрын
I don’t disagree, but some drones (especially ones used for this stuff or for large scale film making type stuff) are actually really large compared to a hobby grade one. I’m not saying they could carry 5 gallons (they might could) but it’s more than 8 ounces
@thederogativeworld28 күн бұрын
Just shy of 8 gallons on a system that can take off and land with no runway, and is significantly cheaper than a manned aircraft in terms of initial cost, maintenance, and pilot costs. Also significantly safer in terms of flying at low altitude, and depending on the future could be upscaled to carry even more chemicals. Crop dusting manned aircraft certainly have a place in covering large swaths of land quickly, but these agricultural drones are popping up because they offer significant opportunities to farmers.
@anjhindul28 күн бұрын
Smh, I can buy a used crop dusting cessna for half the price of a new drone. Deone is 35,000 Drone carries 20 lbs per flight and can only resist 20mph winds. Can cover about 30 acres a day, vs 60 acres an hour for a cessna... so 16 drones at 32,000 each 550,000 for the drones to do the same work as a 16,000 plane... smfh, idiots
