This song was originally written for Dione Warrick but she turned it down. Of course, she eventually song it on one of her albums. Her version is still the best!

Boris: I remember meeting Maestro Bacharach when I was four years old in 2004(?). He brought his own band and some singers to accompany the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) which he conducted himself for that evening concert which sold out in two days for the 2,780 seat Orpheum Theatre concert hall. My parents bought third row centre seats and he closed out the show with his own solo performance on the piano in a completely darkened theatre except the single spotlight beam on himself singing “Alfie.” A line up formed outside by the stage door in the light rain and Bacharach came out and autographed and spoke to every person. When it came to my parents turn I tucked at his jacket sleeve and opened up both my arms. He was still young enough to manage to pick me up in his arms and I just scrambled over his jacket and lapels and sat over his shoulder as he chatted with Mom and Dad. Mom reached out and dusted my shoe marks off Bacharach’s jacket, said something which made him laugh and lifted me off the Maestro’s shoulders. ❤Diane, Vancouver, Canada. SnDE22/24. 10:32 pm

Excellent! A lot of the stuff I knew but so much I didn''t! John Peel, a walking encyclopedea of music, a lovely guy I had the pleasure to meet a couple of times when I was road manager for for the band Andromeda which Peel had championed in his Top Gear radio show and for whom he also got some gigs. An amazing knowledge of everything music!

Beautiful clean music. A talent that is hardly used by artists anymore. All this crappy computer generated music they are releasing nowadays can't hold a candle to these artists of the 60's. What a shame!

Incredibly talented and heartbreakingly beautiful and lovely As others have noted an awesome singer/ songwriter. Director/ Writer/ Actor Paul Mazursky loved the song so much he put it in his film 3 years later”Bob,Carol,Ted, and Alice “ which starred Natalie Wood,Robert Culp,Dyan Cannon and Elliott Gould. Perfect song to end the film as they all walk out of the hotel in Las Vegas.

A tear from both eyes, one for the majesty of the songwriting and performances, but the second tear is a sad tear for that this is now a lost art form that is now replaced by singers who depend on computers and fakery to sound in tune
