Many believe that Bob Dylan or The Animals made this song. But it was Lead Belly in 1944. Joan Baez copied this song in 1960. Bob Dylan copied it in 1963 and The Animals copied it in 1964

I've casually researched the origins of this song as best I could. What I've learned is that it is believed to have originated in Appalachia during the second half of the 19th century. However, the melody may be based on an English folk song from the 17th century. No one knows if there actually was a place in New Orleans named or known as the House of the Rising Sun. Some speculate the song is about a gambling parlor, others a brothel. Alan Lomax said Rising Sun was the name given to a bawdy house in two English folk songs.

That's because it's not SUPPOSED to be "IN Rhythm", if you're trying to "dance a waltz" to it.... In a couple of spots, they change the timing- BUT THAT'S how the song was MEANT TO BE... Personally, I think it's THE GREATEST, and MOST Original song, out of the whole "grunge" Era!..👍👍 The first time I heard it I was BLOWN AWAY!... JUST when I'd just about HAD IT, w/ the Grunge Shoe-gazers, thinking ALL you NEED, to BE a Grungestar, was a rumpled flannel shirt, or a bad sweater, hair in your face, and worn shoes to gaze at... THEN came along Chris, and Kim Thayil, an Black Hole Sun!... What a DAMN SHAME, we had to lose him, at such a young age... HE made a DEMO, of Black Hole Sun, to play for the band, so they could HEAR what HE HEARD, in his head- A Demo, WHERE HE played ALL the Instruments!... His band had slack jaws, as they listened, and their Producer said "THIS is going to be BIG!"...❤👍👍👍 Farewell, Chris❤

I remember His passing like yesterday. I was in a little boutique hotel in Belgrade, Serbia and this song was playing while I slept and dreamt vividly. I awoke to the television playing this song while announcing His passing. I’ve always loved this song and the crazy ass video. Rest Easy Sir🙏🏾✨

I like how in the “hang my head, drown my fear” part, the guitar sounds save and caring for the “hang my head”, but the “drown my fear” sounds ominous, dissonant, and even a little foreboding.

That's Leadbelly playing his 12-string, for sure, but it's his wife Martha singing. We rarely hear her. House of the Rising Sun is a very old folk song, it's origin uncertain.

Just for the record, Chris was murdered just like Chester for talking too much about the pedofilia rings in the show business, this was before Epstein fell and was later murdered in jail for knowing too much
