I played with Dave in 2004. He was barely 20 and his skills were already at this level. His consistency and meter during his snare blasts wasn't at the level he's displaying in this vid, but the raw talent was there. He was doing this shit on cheap equipment that more often than not couldn't accommodate his abilities. We were playing with a wildly talented "bandleader" who couldn't see that and constantly derided his skillset. Being about 10 years older, I COULD see what was happening and verbally took the guy down a peg every chance I could and they ended up kicking me out. I remember telling the main guy he needed to learn some humility and that that would go a long way towards people wanting to play with him. A couple years later Dave got the CD gig and the other guy has faded into obscurity. It's cool to see Dave refining his style over the years, his cymbal work has gotten much tighter but it's still recognizable to me. There's something unique about his snare blasts that doesn't seem to come thru in the studio as much as it does live. Awesome to see him still at it and occupying a space that few drummers in the world can or will.

This show was BADASS!! One of the best I have seen since the days of Frank Rini on vocals back in 1994-95. No one can ever replace Bill Tolley, not ever, but it's great to see them carry on and not let such amazing music die. I have been a fan since the very day Bill gave me a copy of Invocation of Evil in 1992 when it first was released, I saw them that same weekend at the Roxy in Huntington, NY and that was that!...Internal Fucking Bleeding!
