Breen are just boringly normal according to Discovery. We aren't taking Borg or Changelings here, they are just organic humanoids

Everyone shites on STTMP. Yes the plot is a rework of a TV episode. Yes it has some problems. Yet it's pretty much the only ST film that's not basically just a protagonist / antagonist space opera, but actually quite pure science fiction. It keeps closer company with 2001 A Space Odyssey than any other ST movie.

Who gives a s**t whether something is 'Canon' or not? It's been thrown around so much that the term in regards to many TV Series has all but become redundant. Besides, Canon is only relevant to the rights holders of various IPs/franchises, as they have done as they please in the past and given the middle finger to the loyal fans/followers.

Considering the liberties STD took with the appearances of Klingons and Gorn, I cannot accept their version of Breen as Canon. STD is just one big, annoying parallel universe, like the Kelvin universe or the Mirror universe.

I figure no real answer to how the Breen looked under their masks would have made everyone happy, but if they brought them to prominence after all this time and still didn't unmask them, it wouldn't feel right either. I'll say I enjoyed the mystery while it lasted, but nothing lasts forever and I'm mostly satisfied with the answer we got, even if their solid state (drive) looks like live action Piccolo. Explains why the Changelings got along so well with them at least.

The whole Jordie visor and implant thing is badly written because there's no way at by that point in the future it wouldn't be simply routine to grow perfect genetic copies for eyes, skin, genenitalia, any body part.

I thought breed are a civilization of merc's with one core race but not necessarily the head of the civilization anymore. The suits are just a way to unite them. However, this is an ok origin.

Breen when star trek writers official run out of even poor ideas and have to copy return of the jedi. Star Trek died with Gene Roddenberry. TNG held together somewhat without him thanks to his guidelines and the writers familiarity with his vision for the show, but its been a slow downward slope of quality ever since he passed.

By respecting all cultures and allowing all civilizations to develop naturally, you are also allowing cultures and civilizations who wish to destroy you to develop. Both in real life and in Trek, following such an ideology isn't really sustainable. The unfortunate truth is that the evolution of complex life, of cultures, of technology and of civilization is primarily accomplished through conflict.

Great job. I totally agree about Insurrection and Nemesis. The TNG cast just wasn't movie-worthy. I have to say though, that my rating would have Khan at the top, with Undiscovered Country number two, then The Search for Spock, Voyage home, and the others as you stated.

I was quite keen on the , half humorous, idea that the Breen were a swarm of some kind, possibly tiny insects, who achieved sapience through a collective consciousness, and needed the suits for coherence. People never saw them due to a deliberate act of forgetting. Kira, for instance, opened up a Breen suit, came to know that they were just an amalgamation of angry fruit flies buzzing around in there and the thought just freaked her out so much that her brain just noped the hell out of that, leaving her to forget in an amnesiac episode. Their overtly formless nature also made them natural allies for the Changelings, They also never evolved that way, but were instead created by one of the more godlike races, like the Q, as a satire of humanoids and just left to run about getting up to mischief with miscellanous hijinks. If the other humanoid races are anything like us, they're all a sort of symbiiotic ecology of various viruses, bacteria, and other microrganisms. So to a being like a Q , we might all appear to be some variation of a swarm or multispecies colony of some kind, making the Founders objection to solids, as alienated discreet entities, even more absurd than it already is. Very little enders versus big enders. The Breen were construcetd in that way to remind the Founders of this, but they didn't get it. Either that, or they're dogs or a gas.

They just let loose with TAS, so many one off aliens that sadly not seen after, like the Ursinoids from Mudd's passion, like 5 frames of screen time. Think they were going for even more when the Motion Picture came out, and then sadly with TNG and the ones after they really dialed back to just forehead/nose appliance aliens. Voyager started getting back there with the Voth and now Strange New Worlds revisited the Gorn, but definitely a dry spell for variety when they 'no masks' mandate was issued.

2:53 well dng damage can be use as fast mutation so life on planet like that may go around, very resistant to mutations with an extremely effective gene repair system, we have something like this, a bacterium that can absorb doses of radiation that are lethal to any other organism, yes, 100 times greater without any effect, but these bacteria reproduce hundreds of times slower. another option is multitasking, if the body has many elements that have the same effect, whether at the genetic level or entire duplicated organs and good immunity, the body can simply mutate rapidly, destroying mutations that threaten survival and leaving positive and neutral ones, and redundancy is always a matter of copies of the original remain. Few organisms on Earth have evolved around rapid mutations, mainly because working in this field requires almost intelligence, when the organism operates completely instinctively, but certain elements of this system can develop naturally, especially in such an environment.

Wrath of Khan is unparalleled among TOS movies, in large part because of Ricardo’s performance (and his “rock star” costume, appearance, and entourage ). My personal favorite, however, is Motion Picture. Despite it being boring in parts (especially following Star Wars), and the sappy acting of the too handsome Decker, the story and its development captures the essence of the TOS. Journey Home was way too cheesy for me; though it was cute and nice to have in the middle of the rest, it would not survive on its own (the perfect sling shot time travel even in the original TOS bends logic to the point it cracks, so no). Undiscovered Country was too confusing and political. Final Frontier had only one redeeming line. Search for Spock was just to correct the writing off of Spock.
