Truly amateur- does not oil the motor or capstan bearing. When I saw it running with no rollers on and threaded that way I had had enough. Get your machine to a qualified repair person or you will end up with amateurs that do half the job. They really do not know what they are doing- get real training from a guy who has done this for a long time 48 years so far. So far You tube videos are 100% lacking in my experience.

I have the same problem with mine. Thinking about a total rebuild. Are the kits on eBay from a reputable seller any good? He does have good feedback on almost everything he sells! Hifi audio rocks is the seller?

I would be very very careful dealing with ebay sellers. My experience with a seller went completely pear shaped. He had great reviews, however, was not true to his word and ebay did not resolve my problem nor did they publish the negative review I left for seller. Purchase replacement parts from Mouse or another reputable supplier.

I havent looked at new audio tech in years because i l just ove my vintage stuff. Considering that electrolytics are now half the size they once were, its surprising that the power amps are even bigger than they once were!

I have a Adcom GFP 565. When I plug the headphones into the jack, the speakers will not shunt (turn off). The sound comes out of the speakers and headphones.
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 13 күн бұрын
GFT 565 is a preampifier which is separate from the power amplifier (connected to the speakers). The use of headphone is designed for monitoring the sound output of the preamplifier. So plug into to the headphone jack of DFP 565 has nothing to do with the speakers.

please help...i have yamaha m2 amp...my spendor s100 has 3 inputs on back of speakers...low , mid , high...so i had yamaha m2 high and lows on channel A and lows on channel B...never any problems sounded great... now today i go to hook up a Rel sub high level red to right A+ channel Yellow to B+ channel and black to right negative A-...all of a sudden no sound from channel B...on the back I turn the left volume gain control and it workd but the right volume gain and nothing...I thought maybe the Rel sub shorted out a fuse...i took gront pannel off and can' see any of those fuses out...is there another place i don't see where a fuse may be blown out❓
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 13 күн бұрын
There are six fuses installed inside of M-2 power amplifier. The fuses F653 and F654 are designed to protect power supply for amp predriver stage circuit. The F 655 and F656 are used to protect power driver stage of amplifier. F651 and F652 are used for protecting the indicating lights. If your lights and one channel are working, that means no fuses are blown. I assume that channel A may be short which causes the speaker relay RY601 to activate and shut off the speaker A.

Have a GX-635D recently but it does not play, it powers up, but no green light comes on, nor any function works like rewind or record. Not sure what that would be. There is tape mounted on it. But no movement of the capstan or motor sound
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 2 ай бұрын
From your descriptions, it seems that your GX-635D may have a defective power supply problem. I suggest to check the FUSE PC board TH-2040. There are four fuses on it. The followings are their power supply functions: (1) Fuse #2 - capstan motor (2) Fuse #3 - reel motors (3) Fuse #4 - record/play amplifiers (4) Fuse #5 - logic control board which handle play/stop/forward/reverse switch functions. If all fuses are good, then you may have defective components in the power supply board which requires further diagnose and repair.

@@VintageAudioFan Thank you for your answer, I'll look into that as it is a good indicator and starting point to see if the problem is visible there. But a blown fuse is always an idicator of something failing thus in need of a check I've noticed that these are prone to transistor failure as well. Maybe that is what's the issue but until then I will tackle that first. Replacement shouldn't be a problem but maybe the lack of a scope or is it possible to work on it without a scope

Very nice video! What substitutes did you used for replacing 2sa697 and 2sc1211? Thank you
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 4 ай бұрын
The data sheet shows 2SA697(PNP) - Pc: 0.5 W; Vcb: -65V; Vce: -60V; Ic: 0.7 A. I replaced it with my stocked transistor 2SB647A - Pc: 0.9 W; Vcb: -120V: Vce: -100V; Ic: 1 A which is an upgrade. It is paired with the 2SD667A (NPN). So 2SB647A/2SD667A should work.

I have too a sx 550 which after 10 min or so dc offset starts gradually to jump between 1v to -1v on the left channel and puts a soft background crackle into the left speaker which is not affected by volume or any other controls. I'm a novice into electronics and maybe please you give some hints where to start from. Thank you
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 4 ай бұрын
If there is a fluctuating voltage on DC offset and with a static/cracking noise, it is generally caused by a defective differential transistor in the power amplifier. I suggest to replace Q1 (2SA798) in the left channel on PCB (AF Ass'y AWK-061).
@georger.9514
@georger.9514 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your quick answer. I will try to swap them one to another to see if the problem moves to the other channel. What would be the correct substitute for the 2sa798 if the one on the left channel is defective? A matched (hfe and vbe) pair of ksa992fta would do the job? Thank you a lot and sorry for the disturbing.

So, I recently found a guy selling the entire system, the stack: KC992,KM992, cassette deck KXW892,KT592, kenwood courts synthesize and the pair of speakers are the JL1002 4 ways 180W all in great condition and it comes in cage made by them too, all for 200$. I think I got a good deal. I’m gonna get a turntable for it and I should be set for a while.

I need some advice on the cr 1020 receiver. When I turn off the power switch, there is a big bang in both speakers. I don't know where the error is and what should I check? When the receiver is on, the relay is protection, but I can't figure out what causes the boom in the speakers when it's off. Thank you in advance for the professional answer. Peter
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 4 ай бұрын
I had same problem before. I think if the receiver is out of the protection mode, it usually means the DC balance is near to 0 V. However, when there is a bad contact inside the relay, it always make noise or no sound to the speakers. I suggest to check the relay or replace it.

I dropped off the exact model to be serviced for a low hum in the "tone in/out" switch. My buddy, who is generally very knowledgeable when it comes to electronics repair, declined to service it because it appeared to be difficult to take apart and find the issue. Any recommendations or tips you can give me to relay to him would be appreciated.
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 4 ай бұрын
The hum noise usually comes from the grounding problem which may indicate there is a loose soldering joint in the circuit board or bad contact of a grounding wire inside the receiver. It may be also caused by other reasons. But it is the good start point for the troubleshooting.

Is this the same sound quality as a 919? I am in North america and would be getting a D907. I am worried if its a good buy for about 900 USD fully recapped
@VintageAudioFan
@VintageAudioFan 4 ай бұрын
Yes. It should be same. The D907s were made for Japan domestic market. The circuit and parts in D907 are same as the 919. The difference is D907 needs a 100V AC power source which is required to buy a voltage converter transformer to bring down 110V to 100V for use in USA.

Could be a number of things to check as well as motor run cap. These are AC reel motors so they do have motor phase advance caps- the reel switches in these decks which are the larger Alp switches to the rear are known to open and some short- maybe the fast wind one is shorting- you need to check with a meter- I have had two in my shop recently both with opposite effect.
