Thank you for posting this. As a mom with a neurospicy kiddo with Autism, I have been struggling with adjusting to what we are doing for school. Last year I used Gather 'Round, I loved it and bought all of the curriculum for this coming year only to find out that it is not working for my kiddo. So then I bought Oak Meadow and was excited to start that again for this year (used it the year before GR), but now that he's moved to a higher "grade" level most of the work is read, read, read and write, write, write. The amount of reading is a stretch, but do able for him, but the writing is well one of our biggest challenges. So many tears and stresses for planning later, I sat and typed in You Tube " help with Autism curriculum" and you showed up first. Your content has really helped me and I even have set and apt for the Son-Rise curriculum at the Autism treatment center of America (that I never knew about until you mentioned it). Thank you!!!!

Do you have a specific curriculum that you use for Darrion? My son is nonverbal and has autism and getting ready to go into Kindergarten homeschooling. Any recommendations?
@homeschoolautismlife29 күн бұрын
For autism therapies at home we use the Son-rose program. You can do it online and I believe all the progress Darrion has made is thanks to this program. It is a program you can take online at your own pace. If you read Autism Breakthrough by Raun Kaufman, it'll give you a great starting off point for understanding what it's all about. It is the most loving and accepting program while helping them move forward. As for school itself, you have seen in this video how much I've had to change and adapt. For kindergarten I would recommend Gather Round Homeschool numbers and letters. You can take it at your son's pace...it be bought online and printed or order it to be printed. Academics can take a back seat unless your child is thriving with the challenge. My son has always been resistant to book work so my advice is to follow your child's lead. I hope this helps! Hugs

It’s like you heard my conversation with my husband last night 😅. I homeschool our 9 yr old ASD son plus all the therapies and I’m just worn out. I told him I can’t do it all without a break but I’m afraid to take a break- I’m crazy I know 🤪. I’m also a believer but I struggle to let go of control- which I know I don’t have anyway. The Lord is in control. You have been super encouraging- thank you

Hugs! God's grace in action is that He gives us time to learn how to be content despite ourselves, society expectations and our overwhelming love to see our kids succeed. Be encouraged, my friend, that God will always focus our efforts on what is of eternal value. Sometimes it's more important to be Mary at Jesus' feet than running ragged and angry like Martha. I was just watching the Chosen TV show and how they portrayed Martha and Jesus was perfect. I truly believe that their discussion could be transferred to any of us mothers ( but especially mothers with special kiddos). He did not negate the work and effort to serve our kids but He would remind us that we need to lean on Him for strength and contentment. Hugs again!

I would take away the struggles. I think the highest functioning autistic people see it as a benefit. I think it's harder if a person can't function on an adult level. Do you have any suggestions for canadian literature?
@homeschoolautismlife2 ай бұрын
If you're looking for writers writing about Canada L.M. Montgomery. She writes Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlee. There are many Canadian authors but I don't know if their work is on Canada. Guy Gavriel Kay and Margret Atwood are Canadian.
@lillahigdon7712 ай бұрын
@@homeschoolautismlife Thank you! We have a lot of curriculum for British literature and American literature but I did want to find a unit study or curriculum for Canadian literature. L.M. Montgomery is the author that inspired me to try to find a specific Canadian literature course. Do your high school or middle school students have a specific Canadian literature course they have to do for credit?

@@lillahigdon771 You ask such good questions. So as far as a ready to go curriculum I don't know if there is one that I would endorse. Compared to the rest of the world we are a young country at 150ish years. Many of those years many just survived the winters and tried to figure out our identity as not a British colony. 😂 There were many writers so there is literature to find however most curriculums made today in Canada are filled with more liberal and ideological issues. In the last ten years the political landscape is skewed where truth isn't really important. If you want to do a Canada unit go for history! Here on KZbin there is a series called This is Us: the story of Canada and it's very good. The books I shared in this video are really good too. I love how innocent and lovely the Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlee! I hope this helps.

I realize this is an old video, but I was curious how your daughter is doing. I believe she and my grandson are the same age now and we share the same struggles. He did Spelling You See and many other programs through the years. I finally started working with him slowly on the 1000 most commonly used written words. Did you stick with Power Spelling?
This is what I finally found that works best for her... Memorization only stays for the test period and then is lost to her. These stories stick in her head! I'm so excited to finally find it.

There are so many unknowns when you have a child with special needs...hindsight illuminates all the "mistakes" we have made. I have had to learn to recognize that I had to gain in knowledge and wisdom. In order to learn, I needed to make the mistakes and experience the "what not to do's". Sadly we will never know if we are doing everything correctly but that why I choose to lean heavily on God's wisdom! Big huge hugs

This is the first time I've seen any content you've made, first time on your channel, and I'm already so relieved and grateful! My homeschooler and I are pretty much alone in the world, the area we live in has absolutely nothing to offer for people educating children outside of the "free and appropriate" (lol) and I've started out by recognizing where he's at in respect to the subjects, we're just trying to master them fully & develop skills that help through hard times. Honestly, our whole life had to be restructured by the time we left public schools, more than halfway through his first year, and we've embraced a life that's more aligned with the polyvagal theory's ideas. I've been learning as much as I can about brain body parenting, how to co-regulate and listen to our bodies, to become more overall capable & healthy learners. But as this has really started to take off and make us more capable of absorbing information, I've started wondering, "well, what's next? There's lots and lots of trauma to work through from that very short time but I can't use all of that energy to celebrate healing--- I have to stay ahead of the game!"
@homeschoolautismlife5 ай бұрын
Hugs. Our story of school had trauma too. My son despite all of mommy's early mistakes is now happy and enjoys life. I'd take that over anxiety driven anger and depression any day. Keep striving Momma! One hundred percent your kiddo is better off! I'm so glad you found some relief! Hugs again!
