_Don't_ use aluminum foil. Don't even buy it. Aluminum foil takes approximately 400 years or longer to break down in nature. Unlike organic materials, aluminum foil is not biodegradable.

I wish I knew this then, As for weeds, I spread baking soda onto the crevices, then I have a pump spray filled with 1:1 ratio of 30% vinegar (Home Depot) and water. Salt is cheaper than baking soda.
