Gosh! Brand’s startling insight that people are disenchanted with politics. Staggering! Who knew? (Clot).

I once worked on this show in a past life, Zac Efron greeted everyone from Studio Hands to A-Listers one & all an absolute gent. But one thing stood out; how it was scripted almost word for word. All tv is staged & scripted believe nothing, believe me!

And 10 years on, Paxo’s comments about politicians still resonate with us today after the way politicians have behaved and left this country in the state it is today.

Indeed, I remember some years ago when he was interviewing Tony Blair and he was quizzing his relationship with George Bush and asked him 'do you pray together', it was hilarious.

Paxman's greatest quote is When asked what he is thinking when he is interviewing a politician? He said, I'm thinking, "Why is this lying b**tard, lying to me."

It's hilarious to read so many comments fawning over Russell Brand, who isn't even in this clip, in light of his long overdue downfall as I write this almost ten years later. I never liked him and remain baffled by his popularity even as it gratifyingly wanes. He didn't "get through" to Jeremy Paxman, their interview and the reaction to it merely involved Paxman voicing opinions he likely held long before he'd ever heard of him. Back in 2013, Brand wasn't some savant making strong new arguments, he was just a savvy self-promoter using the political apathy of the time coupled with his facility with language, charm and wit to boost his career. As Paxman points out, he never articulated any solutions to the issues of the day. Talking about not voting and in doing so tacitly encouraging others to follow his example was only ever going to make things worse. Why? Because Tories are never apathetic about politics. They're never complacent about getting into power and remaining in power. Today the Labour Party are even more useless, but voting for them is the obvious first step to turning things around and fixing the mess that consecutive Conservative governments have left the UK in.

response to Russell Brand? Have I been watching a completely different clip to the rest of the commentators below? I heard NOTHING about Russell Brand at all - unless it was he who said about celebrating WWI? But as we didn't get to hear the start, I've no idea. Oh well.

The only thing that makes "people" wise is the the ones that just sit back ignore what is happening in politics. And wait. The ruling class can never ever in history maintain control. They run to bollocks off an economy. Consume enough wealth to hide away when the system explodes in their face. Wait for the population to rebuild. Then allow their educated offspring to fool everyone again.. And steal it. The smartest of the public do the same. It's the freakishly, over emotional blind submissives that fule the upper classes power hungry agenda.

People require qualifications for pretty much all higher salary bracket jobs. And usually one has to be a member of a guild or institute (CIMA, ACCA ICAEW for accountants, RIBA for architects etc). There should definitely be a professional qualification, and possibly a licence, in order for someone to become a politician. That would weed out the likes of Therese Coffey and Liz Truss.

I wonder whether Paxman regrets playing to the audience now. He was preparing the ground for the populist goons we've had over the last few years who win by saying they're anti-establishment, then have absolutely no idea how to govern.

I think people didn't really understand Paxman's criticism of Russell Brand. His criticism is that Brand doesn't have a feasible alternative solution. Brand says the whole thing is a sham and people shouldn't vote but can't propose a better solution to meet the people's needs. Brand is great at speaking to a sentiment but not much good at anything else. It's easy to be a critic, the hard part is creating solutions which the people are willing to get behind.

GUIDE TO CHOOSING THE RIGHT LEADER: 1- find the poorest person in your country and make them your leader. Why you might ask? Because being a leader requires having a heart and knowing how it feels to be homeless and hungry every night, that way you take care of your people, not neglect them as if they were garbage. Being a leader requires a bigger heart than a bigger brain. the day you all stop voting is the day we can make a real change in this world and the mafia will become irrelevant.
