Deer have no place in our native forests. The notion of a healthy deer population in a healthy forest is a glaring conflict of interest. It's like having a "Drug dealers for healthy families" organisation. The Regional council needs to have better standards. When deer hunters can become proud deer eradicators then they will have a really proud role in protecting and RESTORING our native forests.

We don't want "Steak Holders" in native forests. Ungulates efficiently target sensitive species, degrading the native biodiversity and indigenous character of the forest.

Please do not delete constructive criticism. It does not reflect well on the Council and doesn't help address very real conservation issues.

@stephenking4170 0 seconds ago Deer have no place in our native forests. Progressively shift the deer population goal to zero over a 10 year period. Whoever has actual control and mana over the forest needs to adopt such a goal for the benefit (integrity, mauri) of the forest but even better if the Sika Foundation itself adopted this goal and become true warriors of native forest. I get that hunting is fun, a primal instinct and a British thumbs down to the aristocracy heritage, but deer and native forests are incompatible. Even low numbers of dee will take out Alseuosmia, for example. Alseuosmia is the world's best example of plant mimicry, and its strategy successfully protected it from sight browsing Moa but not smell browsing mammalian ungulates. Achieving total eradication would be a real milestone and would train some new eradicators whose skills could be employed elsewhere.

This vine is an ecological disaster. Please don't grow it. It spreads prolifically and smothers native vegetation. It can grow so much mass so quickly that it can easily bring down the largest of trees. It is very difficult to eradicate. It must be carefully treated with a scrape & paint technique, otherwise the aerial tubers will rain down and spread.

My solution is that there needs to be native forest planted ex amount metres or kilometres either side of the river bank large enough to suck up the nitrate from farming, this will also benefit the plants, then to get rid of pesky pest fish that further degrade the water quality, in places like Hamilton the stretch of river is apparently littered with Koi carp, so set a barrier from one side of Hamilton to the other, only for fish but allowing water to still pass through, like a robust net, and make sure all the native fish and stuff are safe, and just spray poison all over them, then leave the barrier in place and the barrier continually gets larger as more stretch of river is cleared of pest fish, now for migratory mullet might be a problem, the smaller whitebait species should be able to get through, and then obviously it is going to cost a ton of money, but when the money is there at some stage it's what I think the solution should be.

Hi. Try a walk along the Pungarehu Canal near Ruahine Road. Or you could try along the Te Onetea Stream around the boat ramp at Rangiriri. Another option is the Waikato River around Mercer or Lake Whangape. We hope that helps.

Kia ora Cyril. Thanks for taking the time to watch our video! In our rohe, protecting and improving the region’s water quality is the number one environmental concern for our communities. That’s the case for Waikato Regional Council too, which is why water is one of our strategic priorities. A lot of work aimed at protecting and improving the region’s water quality and quantity is underway by iwi, landowners, organisations, communities and us. Since this video was recorded, for example, we’ve undertaken a significant consultation process to achieve rivers that have improved water quality, are safe for food gathering along their entire length and meet the requirements of Te Ture Whaimana o Te Awa o Waikato, the Vision and Strategy for the Waikato River. It’s called Healthy Rivers/Wai Ora, and it’s a first step on an 80-year journey. You can read more about it at www.waikatoregion.govt.nz/healthy-rivers-plan-for-change.

The Waikato is nor a "taunga". It is a "taonga". If you are going to narrate a video it is important to pronounce maori words correctly for 3 reasons: 1. to be understood and not risk saying an unintended word. 2. respect maori and be a proud kiwi. 3. to speak in tune. Mispronunciation is like singing out of tune, like an opera singer singing out of tune !!!!!!.
@WaikatoRegionalCouncilNZ3 жыл бұрын
Kia ora Tama. Thanks for pointing out the error. We’ve reviewed the video which is around nine years old and yes, taonga has been mispronounced by the narrator. We appreciate the importance of pronouncing Māori words correctly, and we are committed to ensuring this happens in the future. Here’s the award winning Kawe Kōrero mobile app that we created for staff and the wider community to help with our commitment - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIDYpodondWkbNU.

Say get a job , no how many times s/o tried to get a job and no one would higher them ?. And ever thought that if Scientist just put on " full blooded Green sunfish " the colors & marking of goldfish by playing with DNA , the goldfish might not be in ponds & lakes and wasn't in U.S.A. the 1st place but the DNA playing of the fish to be on full blooded fresh water Green sunfish , they would of been there in those places instead and the water won't be ruined in the ponds & lakes if that is what they do , & if was told to watch a video of how they ruin water the goldfish if do , they may never been in the water places , if to dumb to ever not allow the goldfish in U.S.A. the 1st place , again , the fresh water Green sunfish being there instead that don't ruin the water at all . I might be right or wrong , but never tried & never thought about it , before they were able to be in U.S.A. . So now thinking about it all , there are clueless people & evil people , being obviously noticed , once again in different topics , being noticed .
