Would love to see how the 'pets' have grown after 10 years. We always see the start but rarely a followup.

I love this episode, and I am absolutely ready to add a topiary to my garden. Here’s the catch, though, I live at a mile high elevation in dry Colorado, zone 5B. Boxwood here is susceptible to Winterburn, and always ends up, looking dreadful half the year. A plant that I know does well here is something like Manhattan euonymus and I believe it will even stay Evergreen. Does anyone have experience doing topiary with this plant? I also want to stay away from YEW as I know it is totally toxic. Bay will not survive. Some varieties of Hawthorne will. At the beginning of this episode, the host said that the topiaries she would be looking at would be box, Hawthorne, And Bay. But nowhere throughout the episode does she distinguish-which is which. Does anyone have examples of what Hawthorne topiaries look like, or which ones in the episode are Hawthorne? Whenever I google topiary, it’s always just pictures of finished topiaries. Never a note about what plant it is. And when I google the specific plans, they always just show me the natural growing shape, but not in topiary form. Can someone help bridge this gap for me? (Accidentally posted this comment from my other account.)

That terracotta pot used for watering is called an "olla" (oy-a) because olla just means "pot" in Spanish lol

TOPIARY SINCE THE LATE MIDEAVAL AGE REPRESENTS THE DOMINCE OF MAN OVER NATURE. THIS PRINCIPLE IS A MISTAKE BUT THEY LIVED IN VERY FORESTED AND CROWDED ENVIRONMENTS. I THINK THAT CUTING FRUIT ESPALIER TREES GOES BACK TO ROMAN PERIODS. BUT YOU KNOW THE ROMANS DID EVERYTHING AND TO EXCESS.

THESE IRREGULAR SHAPES AND FORMS DISTURB ME. I PREFER STABILITY, SYMETRY, PERMANCE, AND NATURAL FORMS. THESE SEEM TO BE MORE OF A DISTURBANCE. BUT THE CLIMATE IS COLD AND THE PLANTS ARE LIMITED BY CLIMATE. BUT THE PLANTS ARE HEALTHY. HERE IN SPAIN, EVERYTHING IS SO DIFFICULT TO GROW THAT ONE GIVES UP AS SOON AS ONE STARTS. JUST A FEW PLANTS SURVIVE AND ONE MUST WORK WITH THEM. THE PALACE OF GRANADA IS ABOUT THHE BEST AND THEN SOME IN THE N.W. CORNER. BUT THE SPANISH HAVE NEARLY NO HISTORY OF DECORATIVE GARDENS APART FROM BOX, CYPRESS, CHESTNUT, AND SPANISH OAK.

Am a Canadian and wish we had gardening shows like the British do. From Canada to the UK, thank you for your gardening shows. I get so motivated to garden, and love, love, love your shows. It makes a dreary Canadian winter bearable as I watch you Brits gardening in Nov & enviously watch you in February start your season again! I absolutely love the topiary, and intend to put a little topiary in my garden. My neighbours think I'm mad anyway, & when I moved in several told me not to bother, nothing would grow in my shady spot. Did I prove them wrong! We don't use grit here,,, as Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one big pile of rock, except our Annapolis valley.
