This might be my least favorite song on the album (musically speaking I love the lyrics) but that doesn't take away from how brilliant this album is

Ray is such a funky guy man It's hard to tell if what he's saying is actually genius or he's just completely out of his mind Probably both Guess it takes such a personality to be one the same wave length as Jim "Let me sleep all night in your Soul Kitchen" Morrison

Mercy To a woe-begotten land Upon those who live in the shadow of madness Brought on by their own hand Once a land Blessed with the dawn of an age It`s path placed in the hands of A creature insane The birth of belief And of opposition A time of kings and queens And cosmic missions One may tell Of domination And suppression of masses Throughout a nation The merciless sound Of an iron gate And there was one of many who would step Into the arena that sealed his fate Well amidst the jeering crowd Would he stand fast and proud… yeah… To be consumed by half-starved, maddened beasts of prey And onlookers would revel in his fate this day A hero though he was A fool was he too From then was the madness upon us And worse from then it grew Well mercy on man`s fate… cursed to live his existence As the object of his own chosen rampage …Oh I feel he’s gone mad… yeah

Christine McVie sounds perfect all those years ago. Still got the single ofvthis classic. We saw Peter Green too in Manchester but l'd like to have seen Fleetwood Mac in the seventies also. Great band line ups, all three.

I just discovered this record, and I am not sure what to think of it. Some comments say it should satisfy Doors fans. I am not sure; it sounds like a fast-moving jazz ensemble with some recognizable keyboards by Manzarek. But it's nothing near the sound of the Doors, I don't think. Here are two critic's thoughts in it. One positive one negative. Joe Viglione of AllMusic gave The Golden Scarab a rating of three out of five stars. He considered it to be the "best embodiment of the Doors by one of the three surviving members." In contrast, Uncut magazine wrote a scathing review, ridiculing, "It sucks ... Even Jim at his dumbest, stinkiest drunk would have pissed himself laughing."
