Why the rush mate? Slow down, nobody will give you a prize for splicing fast... Clearly this is not intended to be instructional video, but to stroke the ego of this chap in the video.

Am going to try this. From my experience splicing double cover dyneema rope, this approach is the best. Other videos do not cover key parts and you end up with varying diameters and bulges and an eye that has outer cover and core, leaving the eye loose, Thank you for a great video. I have one question, am replacing my 7mm 1x19 wire back stay with Dyna One 6mm from Glenstein. At the moment am not concerned about creep but just loads.

so a boom brake just slows down the whip of the boom arm flying so it doesn't knock someone inthe head or off the boat unexpectadtely ?
@rorymacintosh66915 ай бұрын
Correct! The boom break does not stop the boom from coming over but it reduces the speed and shock loading so chances of injury or breakage are reduced.

its a bad video - devoid of many measurements - I've tried this twice now and it doesnt work The video lacks information and is the whole thing is done too quickly

As a former sailing instructor, seeing this made me furious, To all of you out there, this a good example of how NOT to behave on a sailing boat. Running , jumping, with no MOB protection whatsoever and no life jackets wearing. Poor control over what is happening outside the boat. You are a danger to yourself and to others. There is a captain missing,, who should give all the orders. It is a setup for an accident.

I found one of these in an old tool box of mine and was thinking of doing the same thing....I also have a "regular" boom brake but it's huge compared to this. Thanks for reinforcing the idea - seems like it works pretty well. I'll have to make some tests of the two...

Match racing can be a lot of fun but you need to know what you are doing. The camera boat was frustrating the daylights out of me because from the very beginning of the race right until the end, they had good boat position and should have won but they kept their sails pulled in way too tight and starved the heck out of them. They should have let them out slightly, gone for more boat speed and they could have won. The other crew knew how to maximuze boat speed and take advantage of this crews mistakes and that is why they ultimately won, too bad they were hit especially when they had right of way.

@spelunkerd5 жыл бұрын
Not as simple as that, match racing is full of near collisions and technical fouls. To participate in competitive match racing on the international scene, these guys know the rules inside and out. Throughout the race his understanding of the rules is obvious. Clearly he hesitated before he tried to duck, and overestimated his opponent's speed coming out of the turn.

The boat that was hit was the leeward boat and was not at fault. All the windward boat had to do was head up for a fraction of a second and then bear off and he'd be clear.
