This is the best version of this song. The other versions are slightly too fast. This version is perfect. 🙏

...I used to love this song, but after something I just went through I cant help myself from seeing myself in the person the singer is talking about and feeling that the perspective of the singer is immature. It sounds like a woman who was unhappy and felt trapped in a relationship with a guy, and he became bitter about the break up. Now that theyre meeting again and all she wants is peace and see if hes grown without her as much as she has without him, but all hes done is cling to his preconceived notions about how things should work. All hes done is sit in stagnation, thinking he has no need to change when he should have been reflecting on who he is as a person and how his thoughts and actions affect his social life. Although this could just be me projecting a bit

I am much more of a fan of REM's earlier stuff, especially Murmur, but this song is great, much better than all the overplayed commercial stuff they started doing in the 90s.

I can't understand why Michael stipe never learnt to play an instrument I'm sure if had really persevered he would have been able to learn something so he could play it in concert. I'm not saying he didn't have a fabulous voice I almost feel tormented every time I hear him sing .

My favourite song recorded by anyone, ever. A film distilled into a few minutes of music. As close as an instruction book for me as you will ever get: I want you naked I want you wild In want the stars to know they win Give me that smile Just give it me Just turn it on I"m lost again

Nothing could bring me closer Nothing could bring me near Where is the road I follow To leave, leave? It's under, under, under my feet The sea spread out there before me Where do I go when the land touches the sea? There is my trust in what I believe That's what keeps me, that's what keeps me That's what keeps me down To leave, believe it Leave it all behind Shifting the dream Nothing could bring me further from my old friend time Shifting the dream, it's charging the scene I know where I marked the signs I suffer the dreams of a world gone mad I like it like that and I know it I know it well, ugly and sweet I temper madness with an even extreme That's what keeps me, that's what keeps me That's what keeps me down I say that I'm a bantam lightweight I say that I'm a phantom airplane That never left the ground That's what keeps me, that's what keeps me That's what keeps me down To leave it, believe it Leave it all behind Lift me, lift me I attain my dream I lost myself, I lost that Heartache calling me Lost myself in sorrow I lost myself in pain I lost myself in gravity, memory, leave, leave, leave That's what keeps me, that's what keeps me That's what keeps me down To leave it, believe it Leave it all behind That's what keeps me, that's what keeps me That's what keeps me down To leave it, believe it Leave it all behind Lift my hands, my eyes are still I'll walk into the sea Shoot myself in a different place And leave it I've longed for this to take me I've longed for my release I've waited for the callin' To leave, leave Leave, leave Leaving Leaving, leaving Fonte: Musixmatch Compositori: Peter Lawrence Buck / Michael E. The real ignoreland is fans who idolize pretentious rockers who get ultra-wealthy from capitalism..then preach against capitalism and call themselves social democrats and the fans ignore the blatant hypocrisy. I enjoy R.E.M's music, but their political views are comical when you realize this song came out 4 years before they signed the biggest recording contract in history with Warner Bros to the tune of 80 million..all made possible from the previous administrations because Clinton hadn't really done anything at the point. Michael Stipe owns a home in SOHO worth 10 million dollars and that's just one of like five...I'd say..capitalism has done him good. Oh...and not all great rockers are liberals...Johnny Ramone was a Republican. You can agree to disagree and still enjoy music.
