As for timeline of events I have my own theory. James and Mary go to Silent Hill - Mary shows her first symptoms of her illness, they leave to begin her 3 year long battle. The events of Silent Hill 1 happen, unleashing the spirits/magics of the town. This occurs within 3 years of James and Mary leaving. James has a one sided pillow fight with Mary mere days to a week prior to the game, James goes to Silent Hill with Mary's body to either giver her a burial in the lake, bringing her back to Silent Hill and to potentially off himself. James suffers from a severe delusion upon arriving, starting the events of Silent Hill 2.

Nice to see you cover this bonus section of the game; the Maria playthrough. Is Born From A Wish the official title? That lends even more credence to the idea that Maria is a manifestation, rather than a real person. 0:55 - It's a tragic thing but true, sometimes are reason to keep sticking through things is that fear of the unknown, the fear of what happens after. Perhaps though that is some subtle survival tactic; if we keep going on, we have the opportunity to find the reason to keep going on. 2:45 - If I had penny every time a horror game got additional content on the Xbox Version, I'd have at least two pennies and probably more. Project Zero 1 had a bonus Very Good ending added to it... of course, as it was a bonus, that Very Good ending wasn't canon. 5:01 - I think that also helps make these playthroughs of yours quicker; you actually know where to go in this fog obscured town. 7:01 - The mannequin enemy was evidently annoyed you had forgotten them, hence the slap to the back of the head. 8:07 - Love the way you just blurted that out. Hilarious! 11:10 - At least he's honest. Not quite sure what he's doing for food and all, but he somehow is managing. 13:08 - An a kick for good measure. Now if only James had that gun when he visited; that monster went down so easy. 18:15 - I suppose regardless of whether she is a human beforehand or was made by the town, does that make her any less real? She seems to be an independent being here with thoughts and actions that don't seem aligned with the town's intent, at least in this moment. I guess that's the bigger question rather than whether she existed before or not; does she have free will? 21:18 - Ah, well, along with the dusty doll and the calendar that hasn't been updated, I can tell this is going to be a bit of a tearjerker. 21:51 - Your sudden scream was far scarier than the monster. Gosh, I leapt out of my chair. 25:29 - Love how casually you ask the monster that question. The music is far more terrifying than the actual threat you face; it sounds like boss music given to a minion. 27:17 - From what I've heard, Silent Hill 2 can at times feel disconnected from the other entries. Well this here sounds like the sort of cult based activity than is present in the other games. 29:32 - Darn that's a powerful line! 35:27 - I suppose it's because it's built off the existing game, hence why there is so much extra but empty stuff. An again, you know where you're going. A first time player would likely not. 39:30 - This here seems like Maria came under a spell. Her way of saying those words feel... unlike her actual character that we've seen in this side story. 43:29 - An that even more so doesn't sound like the Maria that we've followed throughout this adventure. Her tone is so... different. If she had a free will, independent of Silent Hill before, then I'd say that these lines suggest that said will has been lost.
@TheOtakuArtist12 күн бұрын
Yep, Born from a Wish is the actual title. 5:01 that's why I made sure to do my research a practice playthrough before making the LP 18:15 I honestly wonder about her having free will - if she does have free will, the question is how *much* free will does she have? It's most likely she's a manifestation, but does she know that? 27:17 I think it's because it focuses less on the cult and more about physiological horror than other entries, but I wouldn't say its out of place as there's other silent hill entries that feel far more out of place 39:30 / 43:29 Yeah something about this campaign that's odd is that Maria does not act like she does in the main campaign at all - its very strange.

@@TheOtakuArtist Maria acting so differently here is what leads me to believe she has free will, or rather, had. It's like she was her own person, but by the end, became the thing Silent Hill needed her to be.

I hate how Laura is seen as innocent. That little monster is an attempted murderer: she locks you in the with first boss. Say James dies in said boss: that would make her a killer. Same with the kicking the key thing. I would love to see that little punk go through her own silent hill after that.
@TheOtakuArtist17 күн бұрын
@@grayghostxiii she's a brat but at the end of the day she's just a child. Since she can't see the monsters she never attempted to kill James, just to lock him in the room to tease him - in the novelization she comes back to let him out but he's gone by then. Now the kicking the key thing? That was just plain mean lol

Apparently I must have missed a lot because this video is an hour long. I know there are some alternative endings but you seemed pretty thorough in the secret discovering part of your playthrough, so what more could be said for up to an hour? Guess I'll find out. 4:35 - How much health is a strange one to take into consideration? Is that just in regards to the final boss fight? 6:34 - How would you check on Maria too much? You only escort her for a small portion before she gets 'separated.' Funny how this seemingly better ending involves not keeping yourself too attached to the thought/idea of Mary. That would usually work in the opposite way in a game, but I suppose it makes sense, as here it is about letting go. 10:06 - Very bleak that is the one with the most backing it as a canon ending, even if such a thing has never been definitely confirmed. 11:23 - Ah, so an ending that ties more into the first Silent Hill... or at least what I vaguely recall from the first Silent Hill from a retrospective I watched on it years ago. 15:13 - Now this was the joke ending I was familiar with. Random, given no dogs otherwise appear in the game, but hilarious. 19:12 - A game back on the PS2 had separate difficulties for action and puzzles? That's a huge surprise. I thought that was merely a recent phenomenon. 22:34 - They each have meaning... though in the case of Bubble Head Nurse and Pyramid Head, their reasoning would soon be because they were popular. 25:11 - Mary was helpless in her condition and James was helpless to help her. For an enemy that appears so little, it has quite a strong symbolism. 28:39 - This makes the notion of having either an Angela or Eddie playthrough far more interesting... or a Laura playthrough where you can explore Silent Hill with no monsters or problems to worry about. 30:55 - As a Bomberman fan, I appreciate the mention of Pyramid Head appearing in Super Bomberman R. The Bubble Head Nurse does as well. 36:06 - Also a little nod to "Virgin Mary" which plays on naming the character Mary in the first place. 42:37 - A monster unaware that it is a monster. The thought of thinking you're just like everyone else, desperate to find someone else... but no has ever known you. Real interesting direction to have Maria for the bonus campaign. 47:13 - Man, there's a lot of missing girls in Silent Hill. Interesting to hear of this Earnest fellow for the first time; don't believe he seen or mentioned in James' adventure. 50:35 - Which oddly enough puts Pyramid Head in the... good guy role? That's an odd thing to consider given his depiction in all other games and media. 54:06 - I don't know if it is confirmed or not, but I remember hearing something about Mary being in the car boot or buried in Silent Hill the entire time. If her body, alive or not, was present, that could rise to a manifestation of her in the form of Maria before James ever arrived.
@TheOtakuArtist18 күн бұрын
4:35 It depends, for example for the "In Water" ending, the less you heal and the longer you stay damaged contributes to the game putting points towards the possibility of you getting that ending. I don't know the technically aspects of it (like how the actual game programming works) exactly, but I did include a complete guide to how to get the different endings in the description 6:34 According to silenthillmemories, you should "Spend 10 minutes or more near Maria Bump into Maria less than three times Protect Maria from monster attacks Check back on Maria in the Hospital Room S3 Try to re-enter cell to see dead Maria in the Labyrinth twice" There's also a list of things *not* to do if you want the maria ending 54:06 In the "One Last Thing" part of the video I talk a little about this - it's been confirmed that she's in the back seat of the car the whole time.

In regards to the In Water ending being cannon there is a line of dialogue in SH4 where Frank Sunderland mentions that James and his wife disappeared in Silent Hill. I always took that to mean that the in water ending was the cannon one as its the only one where James never leaves the town.

Firstly, I do really appreciate the Saturday night upload schedule for this playthrough. It's nicely spaced out and on a day convenient for me to watch. Secondly, thanks for an amazing playthrough and I look forward to watching this finale. Also, as you did warn, spoilers in this here comment. Don't read until you've watched the video. 1:47 - Oh, I was expecting you to say that a new item had been placed in with your stuff when you got your stuff back. That would have been a cool and potentially spooky moment. 4:38 - Would have also been hilarious if whoever made the puzzle had no clue about fairy tales and so the music boxes actually were meant to go in incorrect places. Also, real nice melody. I was expecting something creepy but the music was oddly jolly and energetic. 7:39 - I knew what James did to Mary, but he just bonks her on the head!? I assumed it would been with a pillow, like how it's typically presented in movies and such. Sounds... way too messy using your fists and not at a peaceful way to go. 13:42 - The dripping noise is an odd choice. Perhaps it is because I like rain, but it sounds soothing and pleasant. I guess the music could be contemplative but... 16:33 - Yeah, unfortunately loses it's impact when it's rather common gaming knowledge. I've never played a Silent Hill game but I think any gamer around my age will have heard the twist get mentioned in a gaming video, whether on the subject of Silent Hill or not. The build up to it is great, though there was always the expectation that something wasn't quite right from the very get-go. Aside from in some enemy designs, I can't recall any clues leading to Mary having been sick though... perhaps I just missed them. 17:15 - Okay, stuck in a cramped lift that descends into black flooding water is absolutely terrifying. The effect there in how it rises up boggles my brain and is real creepy. 17:58 - I only heard the sound of you trying to open the door, so dear gosh, was that a surprise. 18:46 - This has an extra layer of creepiness to it given the suitcase random code. Strange how, despite the hallucination and amnesia aspect, James seems far more with it than the others trapped within Silent Hill. 22:04 - An yet, James did offer to help. He refused to give her the weapon, and he didn't lie about being able to truly save her. Perhaps he could have done more, but he offered help and made no false promises about being able to truly help. It's interesting how despite his horrible deed and his guilt causing him to refuse to accept what he'd done at first, he does seem to be more mentally sound. Well, perhaps with exception to Laura as she seems unaffected by Silent Hill, but she also may be an illusion like Maria. 26:47 - Rather annoying that you have shoot at bosses who are off screen. I assume the clunking sound is the que that you've successfully struck them. 31:39 - You put the egg in the wrong slot; bad end for you. Bad end forever. Your save data is now erased... gosh, the game would truly evoke Silent Hill if it did that. 32:46 - Oh gosh yeah... you have to pay in the US. Darn, sucks to say, but that gives James extra motive. 35:35 - Ah, bound to a hospital bed; the symbolism is much more obvious with this boss. To think James would have to commit the deed twice. 40:04 - Ahhh, to be her resting place and for when he will pass away. That ties the letter around to making sense when we know the full context. 44:07 - The voice acting in this moment is splendid. 45:19 - I did wonder what happened to Laura. Obviously, even if she is unaffected by Silent Hill, James can't just leave her in this abandoned place.

glad it works out! *most* of the time uploads are always Saturdays at 3PM CST, so nice to see that schedule works. It's hard to tell because of cutscene, but it's with a pillow. There's some cut sfx that was cut from the final game that makes this a bit more clear. Thankfully, when I first played this I hadn't even heard of Silent Hill before so I got to experience the twist blind :D Also several times throughout the game, Mary's sickness is mentioned. In the "Leave" ending of the game, which is the one I covered in the LP, James leaves the town with Laura, so it's assumed that he's going to take care of her. Also, Laura isn't a manifestation; the reason she doesn't see the monsters is because she's a child without any sin. glad you enjoyed the LP! it's always great seeing your comments :>

@@TheOtakuArtist Ah, so it was supposed to be a pillow. The static effect was nice, but I feel the shock of the revelation would be more effective if it was clearer what happened in that moment. So James finally managed to reach the bottom of... wherever he was trying to go... if he ever even knew where he was trying to go to begin with. 0:38 - Brilliant delivery of that joke. I was just about to comment how Maria's alive status was short lived but there you go, beat me to it with the zinger. 3:26 - Figured the names of the tombstones would relate to characters. Strange though, no Maria or Laura. I figured the tombs would reflect each character trapped in Silent Hill... unless those two are manifestations of Silent Hill instead. 5:24 - I mean, Eddie's got a point. So when you complete the game, do you unlock an Angela and/or Eddie playthrough to see how Silent Hill looks from their viewpoint? Would be rather fun, given Silent Hill forms from your trauma and sins. 6:20 - Something rather funny about Eddie just running up and socking James in the face. It's such a feeble punch he delivers. 11:32 - You got your wish... Eddie actually attacked. Also, sweet gosh; just how many bullets can Eddie take? He's a normal human and yet he's just tanking bullet after bullet. 14:00 - Pretty sure that is self defence at this point. Also, he hurt a dog; James' conscience should be clear. Like, he took down many a monster before, that for all he knew could be sentient beings that simply didn't speak the same, so I don't think he should worry about guilt from this. Though I suppose him having that guilt even though Eddie was trying to harm him, and admitted terrible things, is proof of good within James, despite the terrible things I'm aware he's done. 20:37 - To be fair, it is very dark. I didn't notice the key until you zoomed in. 22:43 - Not going to lie; my heart did jump a little. What is it with pianos and horror? 25:52 - Awww, it is an adorable kitty. A little bit of levity before the spooky things. 29:03 - Awesome to finally see the Giant's Knife in action. Shame to see the Abstract Daddy reduced to a mere enemy; kind of undervalues their theming to me to have them appear as quickly defeated groups like this. 32:50 - What!? What a random thing. Best be on the lookout for a cow now. 35:58 - Ooooh, that is a terrifying prospect. What a great way to add a sense of fear after offering so much ammo and weaponry in this one building. 38:06 - Your "oh my god" freaked me out more than the enemy. Dear gosh! An to think it was such a basic enemy that you could waltz by it with no issue. 43:34 - Them attacking with no sound effects is a new form of terror.

James digs deeper and descends deeper into this madness... which may or may not be befittingly his own madness if what I know of Silent Hill is correct. 1:29 - I'd be more concerned if the corpse did not smell. Not that this smell has any effect on James. This is a man willing to plunge his arm down a toilet after all. 6:53 - Two foes at once significantly increases the challenge. The slow-paced nature of combat makes multiple foes a huge threat, especially without a horizontal swing in his arsenal. 10:02 - I'm pretty sure at that size, it is no longer a knife. Fun optional item and having to manoeuvre past Pyramid Head to get it is a great risk-vs-reward. 15:09 - Answers; the thing adventures rarely give easy or straightforward. Knowing what I do about Silent Hill, it's interesting how the way the game plays out makes James seem like the only sane person about... though I know that's not the case. 21:26 - Finally, something that looks a little bit different. That's a good indicator you're going the right way. 25:56 - Your curiosity was answered with sheer terror. That risk-vs-reward element popped up again with the reward being for the reviewers with your hilarious reaction to Pyramid Head here. 27:49 - You went through all that trouble to get that Big Knife and have proceeded to pass up every opportunity to use it. Abstract Daddy is certainly one heck of a name for a boss, a boss who... honestly, I've no idea what it is supposed to be. A painting covered in flesh with a person trying to break out of it? 35:04 - This feels like a lot lesser of a crime than the others here, yet still met the same punishment? Even the breaking in burglar feels excessive, given the guy never even successfully stole anything. 36:25 - Now I get it; the person was hanged for arson, but as the poem alludes too, the person was never seen committing the deed. An innocent person got punished, thus the rope to pull is of a man who has committed no sin.

Sounds like he's about to cry and honestly, I get why he would but his excuse are just that, excuses and it's just poorly made and just down right bad to where it seems like no soul was put into it and makes it hard to really sympathize with him.

The Eddie episode? Clearly he's going to sweep in and steal the protagonist spot from James here. That pizza was simply needed to refuel him. 1:33 - Either Pyramid Head liked someone enough to let them draw him doing his job (or a very proactive hobby) or someone witnessed the horrors here, and instead of fleeing, decided to make a painting instead. Despite the horrors about, people really don't like leaving Silent Hill. Perhaps it's a Gotham style situation; houses and rent must be dirt cheap here. 5:02 - I got that impression from just how loud and rapid the footsteps were. Like a bunch of them all stomping the ground at once. 5:52 - He doesn't even drop something down there first to make sure there is a bottom. To be fair, it's quite evident that James isn't the slightest bit sane at this point. 9:16 - Got reminded of Escape From Bug Island with all the insects in this room (if you have a Wii then I'd recommend it to you). Good thing all the numbers you have to press are the obviously blank ones. That makes it somewhat easier. 10:33 - The location makes me think more so of the Shadow Temple, also from Ocarina of Time. 15:55 - James letting out a Mario style "Woo-hoo" in the midst of the horrors of Silent Hill is hilarious to envision. 18:55 - It does constantly sound like enemies are about to attack you. Keeping an ear out on the sound of approaching enemies has been efficient mechanic to avoid damage, but this hallway of jailed enemies throws that comfort out the window. 24:09 - Poor person; that toilet break sounds like agony. I kind of expected a monster to burst out from the bathroom as you turned your back, so it didn't really get me. Actually, I was surprised more so that it was just a sudden sound. 29:30 - I've seen a review of the first Silent Hill before and this room seems very reminiscent of it. I believe the Wii Remake of the first Silent Hill, whom I'll one day play as I do own it, takes a very different approach and has level of the demonic rituals present in the original first game. 32:18 - Another hole of darkness for James to jump down. At this point, it's a hobby of his.

As a result these games have such a strange nostalgic pull on me. I read the title and also mistook Maria for Mary. I was about to say; that's a short game. Your detailed memory of this game is certainly handy. 7:29 - People have a very bizarre way of thinking in this game.
