I’d love to see that lathe cleaned up properly and lubed properly. It’s a shame it’s so filthy and rusty. Of course it doesn’t work or sound the way it should. I also wonder why that lathe is so low to the floor. It almost looks as though the stand is missing.

I just bought an older JCB sitemaster and the four wheel drive isn't working, is there a way to engage it or is it broken and the guy I bought it from "forgot" to tell me about it? It's really not a big problem I guess, I've been using it for two weeks now with only rear drive and never knew the four wheel wasn't working so I can live with two wheel drive if it is broken I suppose.

Reply to Richard. It was a very tired 2286 petrol. Which had need of a rebuild, new pistons rings and rebore unleaded head conv new shells for big ends and mains( VERY expensive cos it was a 2 not a 2A Five hundred vice fifty!) reground crank ( May as well....) And you end up with an oil tight decent lump that still struggles to pull a two ton 109 and wouldn’t thank you for overdriving it The budget for the petrol could have been 2 k the engine would have had to come out anyway and the disco motor was 600 exhaust 300 diesel clutch 100 sundries 200( pipes hoses intercooler paint). And way more torque and better mpg. Regards noise, if yours is 2.25 diesel already hardly worse The petrol was silent at tick over200 rpm but at 45 mph the induction roar was horrendous. Dynomat driver side of bulkhead and under bonnet felt blanket ( not foam) and felt over trans tunnels makes the big difference cutting out the high frequency clatter. When she’s warmed up cruising at 50 is extremely doable and 55 is no noisier. Slightly raised voice conversation, but not loud enough to wear you out in any way. Fine to spend 8 or 9 hours behind the wheel and cover 200 miles/ day on singl carriage A roads and good B roads Converting took about 8 weeks but that included total rewire and planning the rewire making up loom. Painting chassis areas conv from pet to diesel moving battery removing tank. fitting another Union for the return. Fuel filter location cambelt and clutch change. rad hose turbo and intercooler pipework headscratching and modifying Alteringand fitting intercooler. Ditto alternator bracket. Fuck loads!!!!! How many miles had the engine done? No clue mate, but I was told it was good and it is. 93 disco motor so in 25 years it must have done 150 k at least. End of essay. Will this do?

Not sure where my comment disappeared off to. Anyway, that's very useful thank you! Ended up buying myself a defender 200tdi engine with the high-mounted turbocharger (and disco timing cases to stop interference between the injector pump on the engine mount) and also have a set of 6.5x16 wheels laced with 7.50 R16 rubber and a new Roamerdrive to fit to lower the revs a bit at higher speeds. I bought my 88" as a project and hence haven't been able to get it on the road to see what the power and noise is like, but I'll be rebuilding it up onto a new chassis with the 200tdi in place anyway over the coming summer. Will definitely be looking into the soundproofing you've mentioned too as I'd like it to be a reasonably comfortable truck for a few longer distance weekend adventures without too many complaints from the passenger side haha! Thanks again for your detailed reply. All the best.

@@richardlowe330 no problem. Forgot to say; fitted a 300 tdi ex mani and turbo. The turbo is much better orientated and Steve Parker exhausts do the right pipe set up that is SPOT ON. fitted an absolute treat and is well wide bore and top quality. The under bonnet felt is two layers of carpet felt , very thick and dense and tough with cotton waste sandwich in between. I made four thin hardwood laths suspended fro the bonnet frame by four 7/16 bolts welded to the steel bonnet frame so the felt sits on top of a noughts and crosses wooden cross. So it’s not really touching the steel if it gets wet it’ll dry and the sound just gets soaked up really well. Also got a 300 rockercover mat on the lump as well. It all adds up, half a dB here half a dB there. My missus put her metal water bottle in the dash a while back. After a few miles I asked her to move it,. why? Because the top is rattling against the bulkhead. How can you hear that? Everything is fucking rattling! She said. Because it’s a new rattle , and it’s an easy fix to stop it!!

Thank you for your kind response. As it happens I have seen my video before publishing it, having edited a number of different clips to create the finished piece and didn't find anything wrong with it. Although the lighting is little to be desired this was just to gauge an idea of what repairs where required. Repairs are documented in other videos and i have some more on this car planned to be uploaded within the next month or so. May I suggest that you watch and criticise somebody else's attempt to repair a 50 year old car if you don't like my attempts.

A spring squab gives you a nicer ride than a solid foam squab. Try oiling the springs and driving up some rutted tracks to get the leaves freed up. That’ll help. I’m going to cut two elephant hide middle seat squab down into one slightly over spring drivers squab. ( I’m 18 st so don’t want the seat bottoming out). I can drive faster over our local level xing then

No it was in a shed actually, but the shed was in a poor state and I think the general damp air had contributed to the rot on it
