Hi CEE, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge for all of us to learn. Your work is helping a lot of us we really appreciate. I have a question and it is about max seismic spectral acceleration S1 and Ss. The inputs for the program, are in % of g? I guess so because if not, forces seems to be quite high although working in a low seismic location. For me it is a little bit confusing because it is not clearly indicated if it is in m/s2 or %of g.

sorry mate but you did it all wrong, Z section is cold rolled section 1. When drawing in autocad you do not draw polyline but line ( centerline ) alone / the process you did is for solid section 2. When creating new section instead of new solid section you need to select new thin walled section 3. Take one of the existing cold rolled databases / copy rename it and delete existing profiles / then save your section there That way when analyzing the section it will be properly analyzed according to EN 1993-1-3

Instead of the repeat definition of the same filter, use the small drop down button next to the filter button to re-pick the last selection set. If you save the filter, the name of the filter will appear in the drop down filter menu.

Great series. You made a comment "a lot of work". All this model in parts 1-4 could be done in minutes by creating the model in InfraWorks (starting with a blank project, no model builder or other data import required). Then create your bridge and get analytical model using Refined Analysis tools. Check it out!

Hello dr. CEE I have a question please. When I design column using provided reinforcements after applying lateral force method. I get a warning that says: seismic depositions, no requirements! Knowing that this column is part of a building. What can I do to solve this. Or can I ignore this warning? Thank you so much!

Hi CEE, Your videos are very easy to follow and we'll explained. Thank you so much! A few questions through: 1. I noticed that the load combinations (compilations) for the SDLs and the vehicle loads (from influence surface) are separate and not combined under the same name. Is it that they will combine later on? 3 2. Will you be making a tutorial covering the AASHTO code as well? (preferably with steel to get more coverage) 3. I realized that to get results for each beam, a countless number of loads and load compilations will be generated from the influence surface. Is there are more efficient way or is it inevitable?

good morning mr CEE if i have wu include factors 1.2 ( 21+4.3)+1.6(13.2) = 51.5 km/m how can i insert it in robot? i assumed that i insert it separately 30.36 for DL and 21.12 for LL is that right??
@CivilEngineeringEssentials
@CivilEngineeringEssentials 23 күн бұрын
Hi there. It should be DL alone and LL alone as you said. do not input the full factored load (51.5), this would be wrong. Why? because RSA needs the service loads. Still why? because it wants to check deflections and other things like long term deflection Hope it makes sense, CEE

Hello Dr CEE, much love from uganda here,.. Ever since i met your channel, you have had a huge influence on the way i conceptualise Structural systems. Dear CEE, I have found your channel recently and ive been binge watching it for days, great content, thank you very much for the efforts! I have one question regarding this video. I have worked with bridge repair and maintanance projects, and often we would replace the bearings by using hidraulic jacks to lift the superstructure span by span. It was usually simply supported beams from pier to pier. How would that work in this scenario where we have a pier cast monolithically? I imagine the jacking of the structure at other piers would create significant bending moments and shear forces at the pier casted monolitically. Is this usually done, and then rebar is designed specifically for this 'temporary load situation', or is it more common to use elastomeric bearings, or guided bearing that offer some kind of lateral resistance? Again, thank you very much for all the lectures! :)
@CivilEngineeringEssentials
@CivilEngineeringEssentials 23 күн бұрын
Oh hi there, I am very happy to know that you find this stuff interesting. if you have a monolothically cast span, then I am assuming that you are talking about the bearings of the "other end of the span" if that is the case, it becomes extremely challenging. if the span is short, the amount of force needed to lift the "other end" is enormous, and could cause bending moments and stresses that exceed the load carrying capacity of the "cantilevered end" Let me dive a little bit deeper to tell you what I would do Your bridge is: ROLLER ========= FIX ========= ROLLER and you want to perform maintenance on the bearings of one of the ROLLERS. You would need to estimate the amount of force to be applied by the hydraulic jacks to raise the "ROLLER" end a certain distance (depends on how much clearance you need for the repair) This can be done by performing a structural analysis of the bridge assuming ROLLER==========FIX===========FREE with a force pushing upwards at the free end. Then, you need to check 2 things: 1) do you have equipment (hydraulic jack equipment) that can provide this amount of force safely? 2) Can the bridge carry this amount of load safely if the answer is "yes" to both questions, then go ahead. if the answer is "no" to any question, then you may need to consider partial demolition and recasting of parts of the bridge. I hope it makes sense. Sorry for not providing a "clear cut" answer. PS. Sorry for the late reply

Sketching prior to design is important. Base fixity or pin support is important to both the frame and the foundation. Thrust needs to be accounted for during sketching and design and drawings. A reminder list can help. Horizontal and vertical loads. Your building supplier should provide load cases too.
@CivilEngineeringEssentials
@CivilEngineeringEssentials 23 күн бұрын
I 100% agree with your point. Just to clarify, by building supplier you mean the stakeholder/owner, right? One thing I want to add is: the engineering team may be also responsible for parts of the load. For example, wind loads are calculated by the designer (us). Also, we may need to find the "type" of crane needed for the warehouse, if a crane is to be used there. it is a "scope of works" issue. But your answer is very important and I totally agree. For pin vs fix, oooooh this is a long discussion, I think I have a video talking about it. Regards, CEE

Hello, I love your videos!! . I want to ask you something to see if you can help me. When you create a beam with a hole for passing installations, the software doesn't calculate the structural reinforcement of the beam at that hole. For example, the reinforcement bars are shown passing through the hole. Is there a way to calculate it correctly?
@CivilEngineeringEssentials
@CivilEngineeringEssentials 23 күн бұрын
Oh, hi there, thnx alot ^_^ I am really happy you find those vids beneficial. You are right, holes are - unfortunately - not part of what RSA can do. Now I do not want to end my reply to you here. So here is a rule of thumb we used back when I was working in consultancy: if the whole is in a wall and reinforcement is displaced, the reinforcement should be added to the edges of the wall and additional diagonal bars are to be added. if the hole is in a beam (because of AC ducting for example) then special detailing is to be done. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4TCfI1qhc-cr5o Disclaimer: I did not watch the video, but the thumbnail includes the detail I wanted to show PS: sorry for being late in my reply.
