Great video! To my ears dreadnoughts have a much more boomy tone. Like much more focused in the lower frequencies. Ans OMs are more focused in the higher frequencies. Furthermore the dreadnought seems to have a lot more sustain to me, and obviously it has much more volume. I like how the OM is more comfortable sitting down, and I also find it to be comfortable standing up, but I adjust the strap of the guitar to make it hang a bit higher than I would with a dreadnought. I also like how when using an OM with a strap, it doesn't seem to weigh much compared to a dreadnought, so the strap doesn't seem to pull down much on the shoulder. I know people like to say that dreadnought is for certian styles, and OM is for certian styles. Like for example, people might say that the dreadnought is good for strumming and flatpicking, and OM is good for fingerpicking, but I don't totally agree with this. I like using an OM for strumming, because I sing while palying covers of songs, and I find the OM has an advantage because it has less volume than a dreadbought, and thus leaves more room for my voice. But perhaps I could also just use a dreadnought, but simply play in a much more delicate manner to achieve the same effect. The guitar definatly makes a difference to the tone, but so does the technique of the player.

How was the video audio recorded? It would be helpful to see the full signal chain. I have the feeling we are hearing the camera microphone all the time, and the pickups are going to an accoustic amp in the room?
@HiroyaTsukamotoMusic27 күн бұрын
Yes you are right. I should have done separately to record to make it clear. I have mic setup in front of acoustic amp, but camera mic also picks up the sound of the guitar as well. Great ear! Thank you.

That was fascinating, thank you Hiroya. You mentioned the dreadnought lost a little bass on light strings. Does the same apply to the OM when going from medium to light strings? I loved the sound of the dreadnought on light strings, but compared to the OM many of the notes on the faster song were less defined and overall blended almost into a "chord" sound. Whereas on the OM all notes remained clear and distinct. But the dreadnought does have a lovely, warm and mellow sound, even on light strings.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, in general when you use lighter gauge, bass is lesser. I agree to your observation.

Came here for a guitar review but your songs are surprisingly beautiful!!! I have a question if I’m a singer/songwriter , mainly strum but also a little bit of finger picking. Which one would you recommend ? Which one is suitable more for singing over it?
@HiroyaTsukamotoMusicАй бұрын
Thank you for watching. If you do a combination of both strumming and finger picking, OM is a great choice. Also OOO which is the same size as OM, but the scale length is a bit shorter would be great too.

Hi Hiroya ! Just brought the k&k trinity system for acoustic gigs. What kind of pedals work well with this? It would be handy to have another pedal to eq it on stage. Considering you have to use screws to adjust inside. Be interested to know what you use ! Thanks !
@HiroyaTsukamotoMusic2 ай бұрын
That is great that you got K&K Trinity System. You have different options depending on how much process do you want to do and price range is varied. You can get Preamps such as LR Baggs Venue DI for live performance or you can get equalizers too. And another option is using TRS cable (stereo) to plug in to preamp which can do two channel adjustment. Have you seen Tony Polecastro video below? kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHfLoIV6bLqMlc0

Did ever you try some round core strings (like DR Sunbeams) ? Havent tried them yet myself, but they have less tension, so maybe a medium set of those feels like a light set of "regular" hex core strings 😄

I use the Trinity system through the Trinity preamp, a NU-X Optima Air, and into a Fender SFXII. One caution I'd give on these systems is that you can't expect to install the pickup, plug it in, and get your dream tone instantly. You can get a really clean, pure acoustic tone but you have to be prepared to spend some time experimenting with settings. You might get lucky and hit it right from the start, but if it doesn't work that way don't give up.

I heard this guitar in concert, and I must say that it is most impressive. In the hands of Hiroya, a cigar box guitar would sound good, but this guitar has real MOJO. thanks for doing this, not much online to compare these, and you're very clear and helpful. Which do you prefer? I'm looking for something to install, hopefully that wont effect the natural unplugged sound and won't be too permanent. I play mostly fingerstyle.
