not sure if their second album was already out when i saw them live for the first time. i checked out some songs on youtube and didn't really like them very much. and then a friend won tickets to one of their concerts and invited me along. i usually prefer to know a bands music before i go to a concert so i didn't expect much. especially since the 2 or 3 songs i listened to didn't really seem to be my thing. and i didn't have time to listen to more of it because i think i was invited the same afternoon. it was quite a small room and the only way i can describe it is as a wall of sound. one of the best concerts i've ever been to. btw, there is a documentary about them called "play with the devil".

about the pronunciation of "Greif": spelled like this it's high german and the "ei" would be pronounced like the I in "nine". you might have heard that the german word for no "nein" is pronounced like "nine". "Greif" and "nein" have the same "ei" sound. the funny thing is, "Gryff" (as in "vogel Gryff", the tradition the album is named after/inspired by) is swiss german and would be pronounced the way you pronounced "grief"

Did you ever read the Harry Potter thing that done the rounds on the net a while back where someone replaced the word “wand” with “penis”? Well, my brain automatically done something similar throughout this review. The album was called Love, by a band called Taynet (pronounced Taint). I chuckled to myself through the 27min runtime. Such a wean! 😂 That said, I don’t mind a wee doad of industrial, so I will go check out Tayne (t)

These need power extremely hard to drive i call bullshit that you powered them from your mac book.i have many amps you cant get any output even out of relatively powerful amps i ended up having to use speaker posts on a speaker amp to power these.you ether need an expensive power house amp or a speaker amp.

Very cool lists - a lot of other channels top 10s / 20s seem to be full of some fairly big obvious releases so it's good to see a list that calls out some more overlooked acts. That said my own list is also full of some very predictable big obvious releases, so not throwing any shade. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere Schammasch - The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean Midnight - Hellish Expectations Striker - Ultrapower Suffer - Grand Canvas of the Aesthete Sorcerer - Devotion Vicious Blade - Relentless Force Molder - Catastrophic Reconfiguration Orange Goblin- Science Not Fiction Tribulation - Sub Rosa In Aeterinum Terminal Nation - Echoes Of The Devil's Den Chat Pile - Cool World Brat - Social Grace Power wolf - Wake Up The Wicked Hauntologist - Hollow Doodeskader - Year 2 Horndal - Head Hammer Man Zeal & Ardor -Greif Unto Others - Never Neverland Tzompantli - Beating the Drums of Ancestral Force

Late entry to my aoty list, loved it more and more from each listen, there's a very familiar sound that reminds me of (old) Thrice and other bands in the genre, yet it still feels refreshing because they do mix a lot of different styles like Dave mentioned. I love the more atmosphere sections as well, shoegazy at times but then the breakdowns and screams really really hit. Nice review guys, this album's a gem.

Was also not a big fan of this single, Black Hole (the next single) was a little more up my alley, but it's really the drumming and vocals that imo make it better than this one, unfortunately I don't think we'll get the guitar work we used to from these guys. Also not a fan of the Jordan Fish production style, it's not the type of metalcore I love, and I did enjoy the later Architects stuff from Lost Together Lost Together and All Our Gods

Like you, I'm generally pretty good at steering clear of legitimately bad and or objectionable music. However, every now and then, curiosity gets the better of me and I check out something it seems people are hyping, which is how I had the displeasure of checking out the intensely nu-metalised and poppified 'metalcore' of Avralize and Windwaker. It's just mish-mash rubbish that seems like it's been made for a Tiktok generation with zero attention span and that doesn't actually like heavy music. I did not subject myself to the full Falling In Reverse release, listening to two of the singles was enough for me to know that it'd be despicable.

I'm not that deep into hardcore / metalcore etc, so I have to admit I'd never really heard this band before, but I did really enjoy this album. What I particularly enjoyed was the melodic, more punk rock (even pop-punk) choruses, reminded me of Pennywise or even Sum 41 (I mean that as a compliment) - it gave me a way to get into the more metallic hardcore side of things, which isn't something I'm always into. Thanks for the review as I'd probably have not heard this otherwise👍

I really appreciate the video and idk how long you guys have been doing this for but just some advice as a first time listener.
