Thank you Michael. There was a time when I might have done just that. But I am not happy with the way it's all organised now, so just as easy to recycle.

I'm confused - is it a steam train trying to look like a diesel or that 🤔 it was just the design change time and diesels used that design thereonward?
@stationmasterschoice-walku1307Күн бұрын
I'll try and explain a bit better. The Leader was a steam loco. But designed to be driven from both ends like a diesel. In principle, an excellent idea, but let down on delivery. The resemblance to the Class 59 and 66 is, I am sure, coincidental, but you never know with railways!!

Sorry to hear you are still ill. Hope you recover soon. Be assured that I recycle whatever I can, so it didn't all go in the landfill. But, as you could see from the film, the items are now stored in eco-friendly containers that preserve them better and take up less space.

Well that stirred a few memories for me too Bernie. Pete and I took a walk through the glen once because I had read about it and wanted to see it. Had my first closeup view of a pair of Bullfinches there. The Eight Bells was often frequented by me and friends on downland walks in the 1980s. Jevington Church was the site of a few picnics with Pete when we used to walk the downs, particularly 1995 on our training walks for walking the South Downs way later that year. Haven’t been up there for years, really ought to again! Did the Hungry Monk have a garden out the back where you could sit? If so, I’ve been there! Heard a few swallows on your video around the Church. Lovely!

My family moved from India in 1947 to 6 Broad Road, Lower Willingdon. What a wonderful place for a six year old child to discover and grow up. The end of the road then was unmade, and had been the mooring site of the Air Balloons. Heavily overgrown with brambles, which provided an abundance of delicious blackberries in summer, were several weathered concrete platforms complete with rings. These were our castles, to be defended against all comers. Wannock Tea Gardens was still in full swing then and free! Our gang mingled with the visitors and can remember the 'water otter' on a chain, which when nervously pulled out of the water produced shrieks from the crowd when it turned out to be only an old rusty kettle! Simple days. We never understood the Honeymoon Salad 'Lettuce alone'. Far more exciting was the adventure awaiting us across the road. The Old Mill Gardens were abandoned and overgrown. Deeply mysterious and of course closed to the public. The security was practically non existent and easy to avoid when it was present. The next port of call was the Glen. Again long abandoned and overgrown. This was our jungle with it's precipitous paths and fallen rotting trees. The concrete bases for the stilts were ships that sailed on the stream and from where our stick flotilla set sail. We had heard that Toffs used to punt on the pond there in years gone bye but their loss was our gain. Thankyou for stirring some of the memories. This was taken from my comments on KZbin Wannock A Dance Hall on Stilts. At the first fall of snow, we could be found quietly pulling our sledges up past Filching Manor private lane on to the slopes of the Downs and enjoying the light evening rides. We often cycled this route through to Friston to pick mushrooms in the fields bordering the Seven Sisters. Many summer evenings sitting outside The Eight Bells with my lemonade and bag of crisps. Only Smiths with the blue bag. I recall going to a Birthday Party in one of those cottages opposite The Hungry Monk and being shown a newspaper article of my fathers return from the Korean War. Warm memories. Thankyou for your series, the interesting knowledge you share and the familiar sights,

Geoffrey, I don't know how to thank you. You've made my day. I never set out to be an expert on the history of a place, nor on the things there. Why we're watching? … because we're always interested what other modelers do, so keep on making video's if you feel like it… I saw you brought track pins, my I give my idea on them, don't buy them anymore. Reason I say this is because with track pins it's very hard to control the pressure on your sleepers, the risk of deforming your track and get derailments later on is very big. It's better to use very fine Philips head screws, as with a screw you can adjust the pressure. Finding the right screw takes a bit of a search, but there are very fine out there, I found a good source in Poland, but I'm sure they will also be available in the UK, as probably they all come from China.
@stationmasterschoice-walku130713 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I have been in two minds about track pins. I'll be using underlay on the "public" side of the baseboard, so it might make better sense to loosely pin the track initially until I decide on the final position, and then remove them, glueing the underlay down after marking out.The underlay should keep the track in place then.
@dannyvanstraelen327313 күн бұрын
@@stationmasterschoice-walku1307 yes, of course once glued in place there is no need for anything. But make sure everything runs smooth before applying any glue, saves you lot of trouble after. On my layout the underground is plywood, than 2 inch hardboard insolation foam (to make raised slopes) and than 4mm cork. A last tip I want to give you, even when track is glue in, there is always a shrinkage- expand factor of the rails, on a short track it's negligible, but on a long track you must calculate in a joint gap in to compensate this.
@stationmasterschoice-walku130713 күн бұрын
@@dannyvanstraelen3273 Thanks for the tip. I had calclated possibly 2 expansion gaps in the circuit as it will be about 13feet of running rail. Fingers crossed it all comes together ok. Time alone willtell. Thanks for your feedback.

I did enjoy that Bernie. Always nice to see the back lanes of my home county! Whenever anyone mentions the Cuckmere Valley my mind is immediately transported to the view over the meanders where the river approaches the sea. Watched this on a laptop with sub-optimal sound and without headphones so can only testify to Blackcap, Jackdaws, and Wren.
