Hey man I found you on bimmerpost talking about your tuned M50i. I just got a 2023 alpine white and was kinda looking to start modifying it and you’re one of the few doing it so I wanted some help. Did you do DME for the tune? Any videos of acceleration tuned? By the way the X5M exhaust sounds great in your new video!

It was suggested by someone not to stagger AWD vehicles. Do you agree with them?

The car is staggered from the factory. So long as the OD is consistent between the front & back tires, it's fine.

Do you have any recommendations for a super deep look on the front as well? Any idea what you’d recommend for specs. Also, for the rear I would not be looking to be as aggressive. Recommendations there? Also tire sizes…?

No..... I ended up taking it to a dealership, where they tore it apart, as well as a European-spec X5 right next to it to compare them. The entire wiring harness that controls the rear foglight.... doesnt even exist on a US spec (G05) X5. I ended up using Euro-spec OEM rear foglights..... with an aftermarket switch/wiring/relay. Thats the only way to do it, without a BMW engineer tearing your car apart.

What tires do you have aswell? I put new 22” wheels, and my all season tires make some weird howl sound around 50mph, it’s a generic tire btw (lexani) but my factory 20” tires did not make that hollow sound.

Those were Vrederstein.... made in Netherlands. Decent tires. I've since switched to Nitto NT420s. You bought Chinese tires. That's the problem. No R&D, poor quality materials, no quality control, And the 4 identical tires you bought, are likely made from 4 different materials, because there is no QC in China. 200 (or less) treadwear track tires will make a lot of noise.... they are supposed to. Or..... poorly designed Chinese tires will as well. They will also wear uneven, and the noise will get worse, not better. Americans, Japanese, European, and even Korean tire manufacturers...... all do a pretty good job making quality tires. China? Not so much.

Reviewing the Owner's Manual provides some Bad News about Ripping CD to BMW Music Harddrive: It only does so using a Lossy Compression (MP3). The relevant passage: Music hard disk - General information Tracks from CDs and USB storage devices can be stored on the music hard disk in the vehicle and played from there. ▷ CD: the tracks are converted into a compressed audio format and stored in a directory that contains the name of the album. If no information about the album, refer to page 47, is stored, the directory and all tracks receive an automated name. In fact, only formats supported are: MP3, MP4, M4A, M4B, AAC, WMA.

The tech info you just stated is beyond my level of knowledge. All I know, is that I have about 120 CDs stored on my car's hard drive, and they sound just as good as they did when playing them directly. With the exception of 1 or 2 CDs, I have the artist, album name, track names, and album artwork for every CD

Maybe also add the Dinan exhaust valve remote. Easy install and increases the sound a tiny bit more. Im disappointed M performance eliminated the start rev and some of the cracks and pops. The M 50 gets like 15 miles to the gallon ( I average 8, always drive in Sport plus) who gives a shit about a little bit of extra emissions!
@ninefourteener
@ninefourteener 2 жыл бұрын
I have already welded the exhaust valves open full-time..... which is better, and far cheaper than Dinan's solution. Crackles and pops have much less to do with the exhaust, than they do with tuning parameters. That's why you get "a little of them in sport+ mode, and almost none in comfort (even with valves open on both). My tuner (BR-Performance) has the "ability" to program in crackles and pops.... but I don't particularly care for them. In addition, they didn't recommend it on vehicles equipped with OEM catalytic converters...... which my car still has. In the US, I would have removed them already. Here in Europe, I cannot, due to annual inspections.

Thanks Ninefourteener; great info. It is sad that BMW, and some other car companies are removing the CD players. Although it is 16bit, it is a very good UNCOMPRESSED format for music, that actually sounds better than most compressed MP3 sounding streaming services. Also if you have CD's which many still have, why not be able to use them. Apple and Android car play; USB flash drive input; and the CD player, should be included in all the new cars especially at the new cars inflated cost. Quick thought; ... the BMW HardDrive imports at a very low MP3 type rate, so if you import to the HD you will lose quality, they should let the consumer pick the import type and rate. BMW is not the "Ultimate music importing machine". Thanks again for the info.

I definitely can tell the difference from the stock version. It sounds demonic. I love it!!! I have an X3 m40i, and I am debating whether to do a muffler or a resonator delete. Pretty much for the same reasons as you stated, I’m at the point of my life where I don’t want my car to be obnoxiously loud, but I would like a little more volume, No rasp. I removed the fuse for the exhaust flap, which helped a bit.

Not likely.... the sound you heard was with the resonator deleted, and the flapper valves welded open. Poor cell phone quality audio most likely. Or... You are confusing the "fake" sound coming through the car speakers inside the car. I turned that off the day I bought it. The M50i isn't a particularly loud vehicle, and I don't want it to be.... the goal was just a bit "healthier".
