Helped me a lot, in my scenario I had to logout the user for inactivity even when the mobile app is on the background, so I've to add a Mixin to observe the appLifeCycle (works primarily on mobile, to make this on web you'll need to do some workaround). I'll paste the differences of the code shown in the video here for someone that needs to do the same thing. Add the Mixin on the class: class _SessionTimeOutListenerState extends State<SessionTimeOutListener> with WidgetsBindingObserver The initiState and the dispose will look like this: @override void initState() { WidgetsBinding.instance.addObserver(this); _startTimer(); super.initState(); } @override void dispose() { WidgetsBinding.instance.removeObserver(this); if (_timer != null) { _timer?.cancel(); _timer = null; } super.dispose(); } And to check if the app is in background, you need to override this function below, that will trigger the time for every lifecycle different than resumed (here you can access all the states and do wathever you want with them): @override void didChangeAppLifecycleState(AppLifecycleState state) { if (state != AppLifecycleState.resumed) { _startTimer(); } super.didChangeAppLifecycleState(state); } I hope it helps someone, like this video helped me to implement this feature!
