Jon, what an inspiration you are - all of your hard work is paying off, and I can hear it in the beautiful musicality of your performance (sweet tone and dynamics!), and your more consistently-good technique. It held my interest throughout. Wonderful achievement here, well done! Keep up the great stuff.

Great job john , outstanding performance! Very inspiring for the rest of us keen amateur s watching, the sound was very pleasing and you have it at very nice tempo. You really are a courageous player ! If I was to point out something it would be when you made that one tiny mistake your facial expression of apology to the audience was noticeable, that is a no no for live performing I’ve read and been told countless times 😃
@jcpractices8 күн бұрын
Thank you Alan! Very happy to connect with fellow amateurs. I’m really honored that you find it inspiring! And yes, I completely agree - making faces is a “bad habit” for me that’s hard to break. I think it comes from livestreaming where I try to make a joke out of it! At least, I feel if it’s positive (laughing at self, or a smile, etc), it’s much better than a negative reaction (wincing etc), but I’ll keep working on reducing further 👍
@AlanMcCarthyguitar8 күн бұрын
@ that is a great point actually, the “face” you made said “ ok I made a mistake but I’m still having fun “ as opposed to a face that says “ I’m the worst player in the world I should give this up “ 😂 I did nt think of that !!!
@jcpractices8 күн бұрын
@ Yes! Still very nontraditional, maybe something only an amateur can pull off 😎

Reading it measure by measure, that's a great tip. I also liked the way you approached the right hand fingering. It's definitely a challenging study, many steps above Etude 1. Oh, and I've read some people have a hard time (aka pain) with the left hand stretches. Has this been an issue for you? Anyways, great video. It's always nice to check on your progress. This type of video is very useful and fun to watch.
@jcpractices8 күн бұрын
Thank you Venancio!! Really happy to hear you’re enjoying this kind of video, I hope to keep making more like it. Yes, I found this one is SIGNIFICANTLY harder than E1. From the first page I was like “lol this is overrated, it’s really not that bad”, but the 2nd page really is brutal. The challenge, as you said, is in the LH barres. Super tough, and that’s where working 1 measure/day really helps. I also learned from my teacher to shift the weight of the barre from the 4-6 string set to the 1-3 set midway through the measure, and at a slow tempo, even lift from 4-6. It helps so much!

@jcpractices17 күн бұрын
Hey! About 8 years ago, currently practicing ~2h/day. I used to play electric ages ago just for fun, put it away, then started classical at 27. Got serious about it during the pandemic, consistent 1-2h/day. How about you? Do you play?

Nice work. I've been at it for two months and it is indeed absurdly hard, but there's something about aiming really high that really keeps me motivated. Besides, baroque music is really fun to play. I've played a lot of Weiss and Downland, but Bach is a different beast.
