I'd like to know more about the current woolly pully (green sweater). When I came in in '93, it looked like the one in the picture and the rank insignia for all was worn on the collar. At some point they introduced a V-neck version where you still wore your tie. We would have one or two long sleeve khaki shirts sometimes with no rank on the sleeves that were just for wear with the sweater, since the rank insignia left holes in your collar. Right before I got out in 2006, a new sweater was introduced with epaulettes for the rank insignia so you could avoid having to have an extra shirt or two.

1/9 Marines, "The Walking Dead": They had the highest casualty rate of any unit in Marine Corps history and served in continuous combat longer than any unit in Marine Corps history. Incredible. In a postwar interview, a former Marine said he'd been wounded in another Marine unit, was recovering on Okinawa and when told he'd be going back to Vietnam, to serve in 1/9 Marines, he said, "I knew I'd either be killed or wounded in that unit."

I was told by an instructor, the difference between the Mk2 Utility & MK2 Combat Knife was the sharpening of the swedge point. Making the USMC a double edged point. We had old knives in the armory back in the early 80’s. Some of them had sharpened swedges, making them old originals MK2. The newer models didn’t.
