An early 59 on test hauled over 4000 tons, so normal load plus a HST, no problem

A poignant place. I passed all those beautiful BA 747s lined up along the perimeter a few years ago ready for the chop.

I remember as a child on York station in the mid seventies falling in love with them . After I got used to the sub sonic chest pounding as they banged some power into their traction motors . Never worked on one but I did work on numerous other classes in Crewe locomotive works . And still love them .

Looked in my diary, 8th April 2010, 59103 on Avonmouth (Bennetts) to Crawley approx 1500t. Train was 1A27 Bristol - Pad. Total loss of power on the HST from the leading cab but had control of the brake once we coupled up. The 59 was powering. All passengers off at Bath Spa.
@petec25835 ай бұрын
So not exactly a full load then, that's nothing compared to what the 59s often pull out of Merehead. Bennetts siding is quite restrictive on the length of the train if you don't want to block the road crossing.

Those aircraft were stationed at WRALC in Warner Robins Georgia USA in the late eighties early nienties and they would take off going north about two times a week. The building I worked in was a BIG building and they would fly over and literally shake the building and ground. Once some car alarms went off. So loud but so deadly...

Best whistle ever, you mean the A4 sounding one at the beginning? I'd agree with that
@voidjavelin236 ай бұрын
its king edward, not even a gresley A4
@1471SirFrederickBanbury6 ай бұрын
@@voidjavelin23 the first sound in the video is a bit like an A4, idk why, then we hear the more Swindon sounding whistle. Maybe it’s Doppler effect, but I’d take a Crosby 3 chime over a Swindon whistle any day

It’s just a funnel cloud. You can’t always tell people that it’s a tornado because it’s just a funnel cloud dropping from a supercell thunderstorm or thunder normal thunderstorms. It is just a funnel cloud developing over Bristol doesn’t mean it’s gonna touchdown next time you say there’s a tornado in Bristol just also say oh it is a funnel cloud little factor? Yes the UK does have more tornadoes than the USA do in record but the USA have a lot more distractive violent tornadoes that cause more damage so next time you say there was a tornado over Bristol at least just say it was a funnel cloud

Sometimes I was at the front of And of course when I got back to my father, I was dirty like hell. But I loved it. It was a experience that I never will get back.
