That season, Real Madrid eliminated Bayern in semi-final (that season knocked out title holder Man United and runner-up Bayern) and went on to win the trophy, but one year later, Bayern eliminated Real Madrid by winning both legs (that season knocked out winners in previous two editions: Man United and Real Madrid, both 3-1 on agg, 1-0 a, 2-1 h) and went on to win the trophy and Valencia was runner up in both seasons.

Remember United had a poor record in two-legged tie in UCL after having a goalless draw away in 1st leg. This match repeated the fate of what happened at the same stage in 1997-98 vs Monaco, 0-0 a, 1-1 h, (1-1, lose on away goal). Actually, they had this result in 6 occasions and only advance in 3 occasions (two of the elimination was vs La Liga teams: one was 17/18 vs Sevilla, 0-0 a, 1-2 h) and won 1-0 at home vs Barcelona in 2008 and won 2-0 at home vs Inter (coached by Mourinho) in 2009

Ahí se acabó la era Rijkaard, que la verdad fue buena porque cogió al barça de una época mala que se metía por los pelos en la champions y ya en las últimas por pocas no se metía ni en la uefa. Y gracias a él el barça volvió a ser campeón de liga, y lo mejor de todo es que ganó la champions y lo convirtió en el mejor equipo del mundo.

Hamburger fans can thank three people for this match. First, Bori Primorac suffered a tragic loss in the second leg of the quarter-finals (Hajduk - HSV 3-2, Hamburg advanced thanks to the away goal rule at the time) when he conceded a goal to Hamburg in the second minute and later missed a penalty. Then to his goalkeeper, who defended the best of his career in that match, and to the third person, the referee of the first match in Hamburg, which HSV won 1-0, thanks to the referee who did not first play offside and then the obvious foul on Hajduk's goalkeeper Pudar. Just as HSV destroyed Real Madrid, Hajduk destroyed Hamburg even more in Split.

Agreed... Hajduk overplayed Hsv in both matches, they were simply better team... The second leg in Split was the best game of soccer 'Bili' ever presented in their history ! I will never forget packed Poljud stadium, fantastic, technical, tough and gritty approach of Hajduk, unlucky Boro, young Gudelj and goalkeeper Tony Kargus from another universe...

Fantastic game! 20 years later goalkeeper Mihaylov killed bulgarian football, Lechkov - mafia, Stoichkov - commercial agent, Kostadinov - weak person. Balakov staid by himself - respect.
