Alright You read common knowledge, stockpile your brain You get burned in the sun, you get wet in the rain What they teach you to fix, needs to be broke I say he who laughs first didn't get the joke Go on, untap your mind Quit knocking on mine An English teacher from Vancouver She asked me to write something for her students I wrote knowledge adds, wisdom let slide She says now really? I wanna tap your mind Quit knockin' on mine Walkin' on Knockin' on mine Knowledge is power, got your books go read 'em Wisdom is ignorance; stupidity I call freedom Knockin' on mine Get out Comic books, the Bible, road maps, pornography Anything you wanna read Go out and sit in a field sometime Quit knockin' on mine (knockin' on mine) Quit knockin' on mine (knockin' on mine) ...Power got your books go read 'em Wisdom is ignorance, stupidity, I call freedom Quit knockin' on mine (knockin' on mine) You read common knowledge every day. You're as common as that newspaper you throw away You get burned in the sun, you get wet in the rain Won't you ever change Won't you ever learn Quit knockin' on mine (knockin' on mine) Yes sir Quit knockin' on mine (knockin' on mine) Quit knockin' on mine (knockin' on mine)

No, he was a better songwriter when he was still in the sauce.
@edhelvey Жыл бұрын
How did getting clean make him a better songwriter? "I Will Dare", "Can't Hardly Wait", "Color Me Impressed", "Treatment Bound", "Beer For Breakfast" and a myriad of other 'Mats songs were better than what he recorded after putting down the bottle - or shot glass.

because my life is NOT a silly Cameron Crowe movie :P
@edhelvey Жыл бұрын
Cameron Crowe did write the book "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". It was better than the movie and the ticket scalper, Damone, listens to Lou Reed's "Rock And Roll Animal" while having a cocktail before his parents come home from work. Elvis Costello's "Watching The Detectives" is also used as a leitmotif in the novel. Crowe's book helped me ween myself off of shitty classic rock and embrace bands like the MC5, New York Dolls, Stooges, Elvis Costello and Attractions, the Clash, Graham Parker, the Boomtown Rats, Patti Smith, Blondie, the Modern Lovers, the Cars and Television.

Pure great Westerberg vocal but such a clunky lyric! ...An English teacher from Vancouver She asked me to write something for her students I wrote knowledge adds, wisdom let slide She says now really? I like the lyrics. I think he was saying go figure out stuff on your own. But in the US, I think to many people are ignorant, and it's not helping. But there's something that does ring true about what I think his sentiment is.

The album was going to be called "9 Songs" as a reference to J.D.Salinger's "Nine Stories" but he finished with fourteen songs.
