When he said "i want to get out and see the world",it's very clear to us that Thomas is sick of only shunting in the yards and he wants to do other jobs then just one,and it didn't help a lot when Gordon always wanted to make sure Thomas's place was in the yard cause Gordon was to lazy to shunt on his own train,so in other words,Thomas wanted to get out of the shunting job because he was sick of shunting for lazy Engines,except for Henry,he wasn't lazy in his old conditions but Gordon had to put his influence on him.

I know thomas is old but he doesn't have any experience like the other engines cause he never pulled trucks or coaches he only pulled them to sidings

The reason why Thomas was mentioned to be too young is because it’s based off two different continuities merged together. Those being NWR Origins and Alfred The Fallen B12. The too young part was from The Fallen B12. I’d recommend you check it out as it’s an amazing movie.
