Great! Can it be simulated erosion on the wall?
@CPFDSoftware3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Because Virtual Reactor treats the particles as discrete solids, the impact on walls (mass, velocity, angle) etc. You can see erosion results in this video near the end: cpfd-software.com/resources/videos/cfb-combustor-3d-cfd-simulation-in-cpfd-barracuda-vr

Can you magnify the modification part?
@CPFDSoftware3 жыл бұрын
This video shows the detail level that was authorized for public release. The modification was designed with the end client's specific issue and plant in mind, and may not be something recommended in general, but plant-specific analysis and virtual testing of changes are available from CPFD and several of our local international business partners.

can i ask u guys something about this workshop? how can i plot the erosion on the wall i cant find any way on my barracuda. im using version 17.4

Hello Salman. Erosion plots are only available if the erosion model was turned on during the simulation. Please check this. You can find more in section 13.6 of the User Manual. For additional support please email us at [email protected] or contact your local distributor.

Great simulation! How big is your mesh?
@CPFDSoftware3 жыл бұрын
This was a smaller mesh for demonstration purposes and the work is over 6 years old. Maybe 100,000 - 200,000 cells or so back then. The neat thing about Barracuda Virtual Reactor simulations is that they obtain resolution from both the continuous and discrete phases, so a typical simulation might have on the order of a million cells, but tens of millions of computational particles or droplets, with each field influencing the other. That's where the overall resolution comes from... not just the mesh.

What kind combustion model do you use? It looks transient simulation. is it possible to use erossion model?
@CPFDSoftware4 жыл бұрын
The iron oxide combustion model is detailed in this paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0032591014000369?via%3Dihub You're correct, everything is transient in the simulation. That was critical to capture the motion of the discrete Lagrangian solids with their changing composition history. This enables Barracuda Virtual Reactor to compute the particle-wall impacts and tabulate an erosion index. Erosion reduction is a common use for Virtual Reactor.

We would love to learn more about your comment since it's inconsistent with the feedback we're receiving from our customers and the industries in which we work. Barracuda Virtual Reactor just won Best Software Technology at the 2020 hydrocarbon Processing awards (cpfd-software.com/news/cpfd-software-winner-of-2020-hydrocarbon-processing-award) and client feedback on Tecplot for Barracuda has been very positive. Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss further.

how can we add a common line legend for a multi-frame plot? I'm new to Tecplot, Please help me out
@CPFDSoftware4 жыл бұрын
As long as all your frames have the same variable shown in the legend, you can select Show contour legend in the desired frame. Then de-select Show contour legend in subsequent frames.

Hi Daud. Our training video playlist can be found here: kzbin.info/aero/PLmK_Y7qN7ij3ATGivvKlXPzicdqy3Msi8 Most training videos are aimed at post-processing, not model setup. To learn how to set up and run a Barracuda Virtual Reactor model, please contact us about an upcoming training class. We're currently scheduling our next few web-based classes, but in the interim here is information about our last class: cpfd-software.com/news/barracuda-virtual-reactor-training-class-july-20-23

is not like this , the tube will be broken from fraction of the sand, the sand is on bottom not going up like that
@CPFDSoftware4 жыл бұрын
Actually, in a circulating fluidized bed boiler, both the sand and ash circulate through the system but we agree that the video is a little visually misleading. It might look like everything is circulating at the same rate but most of the sand is actually located lower in the boiler, and much of the sand entrained upward drops back out before entering the cyclone. This can be verified by a pressure survey. In the video we're coloring all sand particles the same color, and we draw each particle with a pixel. To get a better visualization of particle loading one could post-process the results differently and color by either bed density or particle volume fraction. Then the distinction in loading would be visually apparent.

best regard, The case study developed, contemplates catalyst losses ?? (Case study # 1)
@peterblaser16006 жыл бұрын
Cat losses were not considered as part of Case Study 1, but we've done other projects looking at both reactor-side and regenerator-side catalyst losses, and how to minimize them. One example involved a secondary dipleg plugging phenomenon where regenerator-side catalyst losses would suddenly spike and stay high until the dense phase bed level was dropped to below the secondary dipleg trickle valve elevation. The Barracuda Virtual Reactor simulation showed that the catalyst losses were due to poor fluidization. CFD simulation was used to down-select between alternative configurations enabling the refiner to operate within regulatory compliance for CO and NOx emissions while eliminating the transient catalyst loss event. More details can be found in this webinar: cpfd-software.com/resources/webinars/2017-ertc-presentation-resolving-severe-regenerator-maldistribution

Excellent video. I was not aware that some FCC units use a spent catalyst riser to burn off coke on catalyst.
@peterblaser16006 жыл бұрын
Most combustion occurs in the regenerator itself, but FCCUs with lift risers do use air to transport the catalyst, so some combustion will occur. Not much due to the short residence time, but some.
