Insect repellent is your friend lol never leave home without it. Apply every hour to 2 hours if the midges are really bad.

you can use all the creams and sprays you want but they still land on you, a midgie net is the only way to beat them, i've fished for pike in the highlands for over 30 years and seen some horrendous days with clouds of them but a good net with micro mesh does the trick

Scotland best kept secret. I was once fishing a loch in sutherland and when the breeze stopped the tiny midges decided to feast on my face.i quickly pulled out a mosquitoe netted hat and popped it on.only to realise the midges could gey through the mesh.i rowed for all I was worth constantly wiping my face when I was 10 years from the bank I dived in and wet through ran up a hillock till I got to a breeze and found sanctuary. They are worse than mosquitoes. My face looked like I'd had baked beans tipped over it.
