FYI the pirate ship was fully hired by SpaceX for employees and family members. Just worth knowing.

So sad. I designed the computer NAVBUF and wrote the software that interfaced the navigation systems (SAMS, SINS, GPS) to stabilize the radars. Good memories with her in Swan Island - Portland, Oregon; San Diego; Pearl Harbor; and Yokosuka, Japan. I remember many nights where I grabbed my pillow and blanket and laid down on the dark bow deck to gaze at the stars while sailing the Pacific. Didn’t appreciate how special those times were until much later in life.

I was there in 2019, had to leave one day before Hopper flew that 150m hop. It`s so surreal to see how this has grown, right next to the beach. Crazy. I need to visit again as soon as possible.

Those old overworked SSTG 600kw sets kept me busy in 1982 to 1984. They installed the new SSTG sets and I got to ride from Portland, Oregon, to Pearl Harbor while they were tested. I worked as an Engineer at General Electric Marine Department. Soon after quitting GE, I was on the ship at Port Hueneme in California. Somebody I knew who worked on the engines for years said that the main steam propulsion turbines were worn out and they could never exceed 80 shaft RPM at full throttle. I rigged up some gages and found out that several large springs having to do with the overspeed control were fatigued. GE wanted 18 months and $50,000 to build/replace parts in those days. I found a guy in Ventura who ran a company who custom made recoil springs for large anti aircraft guns. I gave him the spring rates and critical dimensions and he made them in record time...a few days, and they cost only a few thousand dollars. We installed them and the overspeed simulation test was shown to be 105 propeller RPM maximum. A few nights later we did the sea trials and sailed around for a few hours. I sat in the air conditioned control booth in the engine room and 100+ RPM on the propeller shaft. Everybody was thrilled. I can still recall the ''Barrel Minder'' on the wall in the booth and the Engineer with the black beard running things. I can't recall his name right now. I also enjoyed standing on the patch where the Polaris Missile launch tube was located. I have fond memories on the Observation Island and enjoyed my trip to Kwajalein. I enjoyed the C-130 aircraft flying above the ship to snag the bag containing data just like in the James Bond movie Thunderball. My Cobra Judy cloth shoulder patch is still pinned proudly on my wall. I hope somebody writes a book about this famous ship.

Very nice. I want to be one of those birds lucky enough to live there. Are there caves in that wall where the falls are? I can't tell if I'm seeing openings or shadows. Probably both. Have a great day and thank you.

the flooding is from poor drainage and all the rain. The county SHOULD be smart enough to figure that out so the blacktop isn't ruined...
