Very windy day plus the difficult Ashline lock. The mooring was interesting as well. Ah, well it's all the fun of boating!

The swan was quite determined to get in the lock and behind the lock gate. Somewhat over friendly!

After filling with diesel we head to a quiet mooring, (supposedly) to stay 1 night before the Wash.

Hunt the water point, good job you couldn't hear the swearing. It doesn't pay to listen to the locals, they frequently haven't a clue 😂😂😂

A glorious crystal clear morning. Absolutely ideal for the Wash. Both of us were a bit bleary eyed as it was a very early start!!😅

A beautiful day and a lovely cruise. Mark even got to overtake a narrowboat with a very low tickover. The mooring is lovely with stunning daisies growing beside the pontoon.

George was desperate for a wee, so we quickly got off and back on again. Joined by a plastic boat in the lock!

Fuel starvation, what a nuisance but still it was all sorted by Alistair. It did mean we had to do a bit more work, Mark was on the pole but Abe got there!

This was quite frightening, engine trouble and a rapidly rising River Ouse. The mooring was under a good 8" of water and still rising. But the wonderful engineers got us going before we floated onto the towpath.

Thank you, my husband numbers each new waterway from scratch I think. I'm not sure it's a good idea but he's happy with it. So pleased that shared some locks with you. What was the name of your boat?

@@bethcross4628 Hi, we haven’t got the name on our boat yet, but the guy who kitted it out has his name on it - Patching-Jones. We came down the 5 rise and 3 rise with you in all that rain

I have just retired and i am selling my house to retire on a narrowboat, my family can't understand why i have started going on long walks and swimming a lot more than usual, i do it because i know what hard work it is going to be sometimes, i will show them this vlog and point out the person doing the locks so they may understand why i am doing it, it was also nice to see one without the bloody music.

Hi Macca, Sounds like a plan, always a good idea to hire for at least a week - to be on the safe side. Boat buying is hard, prices have risen 10-15k with Covid and a lot of people re-thinking life. If you have the time, it's worth buying a mess for £20k but with an otherwise SOLID hull - early '90's with Lloyds of London Grade A steel, onwards date wise you'll be looking at rubbish. Our base plate is 12mm with 11.6mm in the lowest part. Then GUT it and get it just the way you want. Got to be cheaper than £60k with things that irritate and you can even put in a new or recon engine. Cheers Mar

Hi Steve, I'm going to try and do a better explainer, on some of the videos I have posted something like this: No sound track - HIT PAUSE, RICHT CLICK- choose "Open Link in New Tab" www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMdU9... Get though the advertising or endure it. Go back to this tab - make full screen, hit play & chillax. I haven't done any marketing for the channel yet but 50% of people view on a PC , 25% on TV - so I first off I wanted to let people choose the music they want to and put the first series up as a bit of an experiment. I'm generally not keen on library music as it becomes dated so quickly. When I get more time I would like to contact some breaking or established artists for copyright clearance. But it's definitely going to be one where you cannot please all the people all of the time as this comment has just come in.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/kH29Yodnl6uUrM0&lc=UgwR9gvMPZAk2DMPRB94AaABAg All the best and Happy New Year, Mark

great video, what camera and software do you use?

Hi, It's a Go Pro Hero 7 Black, first one with 4k ability I think, I bought it second hand off ebay a year back and sat on it. Then when we were pretty much on the most Westerly part of the network, I had an idea... It's set on TimeWarp x10 - combination of HyperSmooth and a TimeLapse video. So 50 minutes boils to 5 minutes and 5 gigs at 4k. You may have to force you youtube to 4K to get these in their full glory - put the mouse over the bottom of the video and choose the "cog" for settings. Then if you are on broadband you can force the quality to 4k. Then things take on another dimension. Now we normally move every week - so I wanted to use 4k because it's stunning and 10-20 gigs of upload at a weekend is just about possible, before the next week. So the "product" is a balance between an idea and available upload bandwidth. I have two data SIMs with unlimited bandwidth and a MIMO Yagi 4G antenna for my main work connection during the week - so far I have not had to pull out the spare SIM and router. I don't use any software as I have an exceptional busy job during the week. Uploading is cleverly done by the Go Pro, you configure the unit up to your WiFi and when the battery is charged it uploads it to your Go Pro account (£49 p/a unlimited uploads) I managed to get it at £25 for my first year! Then as Go Pro's web site doesn't work, and as I have very limited bandwidth I fire up a Linux desktop on www.vultr.com/?ref=9280158 (referral link to the left) - Ubuntu Desktop (XFCE) from the "Market Place Apps" -> Operating Systems. This then allows me to VNC into the Desktop and download the MP4 file on the remote machine, then log into KZbin on the remote server using cracking bandwidth :-) - You SHOULD be able to do this whole operation on the Go Pro subscription facility. Then after I have uploaded the videos to youtube I destroy the desktop server I used on the VPS server for 2 hours at a cost of about $0.15 cents. Software wise if I was editing I would probably have a look at Kdenlive or Shotcut , although personally I have used OpenShot. My advice - keep it dead simple. Happy New Year, Mark
