Still interesting ten years later (recorded on 26 February 2014, watching on 19 August 2024). Thanks!

Watching this for the first time more than ten years after it was recorded. It's still useful and informative. Thanks!

You don't need a license to enable XNode development unless you're using Windows. On Linux and Mac, you can enable it by adding the following line to your LabVIEW configuration file: XNodeDevelopment_LabVIEWInternalTag=True

This is excellent information. I'm used to OOP in C# and not having Interfaces the same as C# trips me up a lot. Thank you for a good demo. 😊

What about then using Linux and Embedded Run-time Engine and being required to build the Main VI into a .so and call from a C exe to run the code without an Xterm and GUI? How do we handle dynamic VIs being loaded from the VI running in the .SO "application space"? I can create a Source Distribution with the "always included" Dynamic VIs and the code run from the .SO can find them and open them with the typical dynamic VI launching, but then some of my library encapsulated VIs called by the Dynamic VI appear not to be loading.

This is very useful video. I am new to LVoop and I have used Goop. SO in Goop Factory pattern can be used effectively and both loading and unloading can be done. I am making an application where Objects of class will vary as per defined in file, if Objects cannot be destroyed dynamically, then use of LVOOP is not effective. what do you suggest?

Hi, thanks for the videos. I want to program my arduino mega with labview community editions but I have communication problems with the serial port. Error 5003. I ask: for labview 2020 to recognize my arduino mega is it necessary to download the Arduino IDE? Error 5003 when trying to communicate the arduino mega is a common problem? Do you know why it is? Thank you.

This is fun looking back at this video now that we're in 2020 and we have VIMs (Malleable VIs)! Other than backwards compatibility and inspecting existing Xnodes is there any reason to learn Xnodes now that we have VIMs? The Error Ring is talked about at various places in this video but it looks like it is much more than just an Xnode right? Maybe the Error Ring was not as sophisticated back then? How could we the community re-implement the current Error Ring?

At first, my congratulation for the successful working robots seen in the video. The systems are very human-like and the walking looks stable. The negative point is, that the outlook what robot's can eventually do in the future is wrong. Robots won't never go to dangerous areas and they won't rescue humans. The opposite is true. Real robots are designed as helpless victims which are rescued by trained humans. Robots never provide help, they are asking for a service. It is important to define the human-robot relationship the right direction. Robots are not a tool which will improve humans life and they are not stronger humans. The mentality of robots is, that they are operating by their own rules and even human-level AI systems won't replace humans at work.

Nicely presented. So, the big question, do you have a means of supporting switching between child classes at Runtime when the child files need to be built in to an executable?

There's also Tools>>Options>>Environment, which configures LabVIEW to store compiled code separately from the source file of all new VIs.
