Portraits suck, everything has to be perfect and you aren't that good so now what? What's outside your window? Your garden, your bird feeder, your neighbors old barn, snow covered trees. The world. I'm shocked when I hear someone say they don't know what to draw. Get a kids picture book of birds and start drawing them.

I have never seen anyone paint with oil pastels in a way that made sense to my brain and inspired me before, what a beautiful demonstration as well as an honest review!

Hi. Is your black, black? I just received a set from Blick and I swatched the black but is not black, is a dark teal! ***Edit to add that I Hi, Is your black really black? I just received a set from Blick, and when I swatched the black, it turned out to be a dark teal instead of black! Edit: I just noticed that the one I have here-the only one labeled "yellow"-actually looks yellow in the pan. All the others look black, so there's no way to distinguish them just by sight. I'm honestly surprised because watercolors generally last like forever, and only really old ones tend to change color. I don’t think even a first edition would fit the "decades-old" criteria for this kind of transformation. 😂 Anyway, Blick is sending me a replacement, but this is so weird. At least the “black” that swatches as dark teal is a color that’s not even in their big set, so... I guess I have a unique color! 😂 Lucky me?

shading is super hard, but by FAR the hardest for me is getting the structural alignment and symmetry to not look wonky. I haven't tried the Loomis method but this is inspiring me to.
