Quality of life is very subjective. But families and patients should also understand that there is a BURDEN of treatment, when we are living but dependent on machines and other people for ongoing care--to feed us, to clean us, to move us. I do believe that life is sacred. But is it natural to prolong our life beyond natural limits with such extreme technology and machines? I also worry about the financial, emotional impact on my son, having to care for me when I am so debilitated. I worry about my dignity. I want a full life, but to let go gracefully when God calls me, and not use machines to go against God

Recently spent 11 days in ICU and 6 days in an induced coma (acute pancreatitis caused by alcohol abuse).. I was on a ventilator, being given propofol, remfentanil and dexmedetomidine.. WILD experience.. Delirium is no joke, and I’ve got days worth of hallucinations that seem real to me.. Before going to ICU I was already being given strong stuff, I was on fentanyl using a PCA (loved it), and detox medication and who knows what else.. In total I spent 17 days in hospital, have almost zero memory of about 15 of those days, just a bunch of craziness in my head that I’ve been going over again and again with my partner to figure out what was real and what wasn’t.. Even knowing hallucinations were actually hallucinations doesn’t change the realness of them in my brain and considering almost all of them were bad I don’t think I’ll ever truly get over it.. I’ve been out of hospital for 4 and a half weeks now (alcohol free, will never drink again) and still think about what I thought, heard and saw all the time.. I don’t think anyone can truly understand how traumatic it is unless they’ve been through it.

My wife is currently in icu Wednesday last week she had a major seizure, which caused swelling of the brain, she is currently on a ventilator in Liverpool icu on Wednesday 6 days ago they put her in a induced coma she has started coming back she attempts to rip off her ventilator responds to pain opens eyes on command, upon sedation wearing off, her lungs are clear I have asked 30 times so far has her brain stem been damaged does she have brain damage each time they say no, yesterday she squeezed my hand on command and I can see she is still there and alive I would say she has a GCS of 7 at least, despite this the nurse on duty and some intern doctor are only giving her GCS OF 3-6 I will reach out to your company ASAP

I have had multiple general anaesthesics. Times I used propofol without midazolam, woke up normally with minimal grogginess. When given midazolam twice, only a small single dosage, it took me hours to shake off the tiredness. I dare to think how if someone is being continually dosed with midazolam, or any benzo for some length of time they can do anything.

My 52 year old niece is in ICU and they wanted to take her off the ventilator this morning but could not because she was too agitated so they made her go to sleep again and said they would try again tomorrow morning. My niece suffered from a fall and broke her clavicle, some ribs and her ankle and was in a lot of pain. My niece also is suffering from alcoholic dementia. I'm worried that she will die tomorrow because the doctor told me he talked with her curator and they said to not re-intubate her if she is agitated again for a second time tomorrow. There is nothing I can do to change their minds, they say she is not competent enough to make the decision but when I asked her this morning if she wanted to live she said yes with her head. Yesterday she wrote me a note asking to have a tv to watch because she had nothing to do. This does not sound like a person tht is not competent. I'm very worried she will die tomorrow.

Years ago I arrived at the hospital at a .53 BAC. I had to be put in a coma for 3 weeks. That time in a coma my muscles atrophied and I spent almost a year in a nursing facility. I spent a few weeks on a bi pap before I could breathe on my own. I was as helpless as a newborn. I was never full of such piss and vinegar to get back on my feet. I was told probably 2 years or more. I was up and about in 11 months. I kept getting admonished for pushing too far too fast. It took having a fall where I broke my arm and ribs to get me to slow down. Never take independence for granted

Make sure that the facility pays attention to the patients diaphragm as well. My wife was kept in the bed bent at the diaphragm for 2 months, despite my constant protest. Now she has to build her diaphragm back up (which isn't being treated as a priority). She can breathe on her own but can't fully raise her chest and fill her lungs so she needs to positive airway pressure.

Hi, Nice video on your channel, I really enjoy it. Your channel has 2.97K total members, 604,008 total views and 2,310 total uploaded videos. One thing I noticed is that according to your channel, your channel videos are not watched and subscribed. You need to optimize your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year , none of your videos will go viral. If your channel is a bit optimized and the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow. As a professional digital marketer, I want to help you. Let's discuss your channel I look forward to your response

I was in an induced coma in May and June 2023 for 13 days to try to help with the septic shock from it turned out to be MRSA-pneumonia that got me last year and it’s because I was on a very powerful immunosuppressant medication for rheumatoid arthritis called Xeljanz 11mg, I’m very, very lucky to be able, the doctors and nurses who finally saw me awake had to stop in and say hi because they really didn’t think I was going to make it. They had to use 3 different pressors at the same time because my normally low blood pressure of 90/60 doesn’t help in the matter and I of course developed dry gangrene, I’ve only lost 2 toes and half my left thumb pad and I consider that a very small price to pay for keeping my life. Thanks for helping people doctor, you are very appreciated 🙏🏽

Your information and opinions in this video are inaccurate. If you’re going to speak about BCV, you should properly educate people, as it is not outdated. It is used with many more patients other than ALS. I have real, first-hand experience. It can be an alternative to a tracheostomy in some cases. It indeed actively ventilates a patient. In fact, it has a control mode with an active expiratory phase. This in turn equals full external ventilation on the chest wall, moving air in and out. If you provide information to patients about BCV, I would suggest your information be accurate, as the contents of this video are misleading.

My husband suffered a choking incident which led to a cardiac arrest two years in June. He was on a vent. Went through the whole cooling procedure they could not lower the meds for him to wake up because he was having "seizures." The doctor in the ICU basically told me the same thing you said. If he wakes up he may not know who you are and the quality of life may not be good. We ended up transfering him to another hospital that had a continuos EEG because they did not offer that where he was. He was transported put on a continuos EEG. No seizure activity found. They took him off the vent and put in a trach. Started lowering the meds for him to wake up unfortunely everytime they started lowering the meds he would start have severe myloclonus jerks. After messing around with meds they were able to get the myloclonus jerks under control and were able to take him off the meds for him to start waking up. After a few days of him being off of those meds he was not waking up. I would be there every day playing music for him. When I would play certain songs that meant something to us, he would start crying. I told the doctors about this and they told me it was not intentional it was part of the pysudo bulba reaction. I refused to beleive this. When I played songs that meant absolutly nothing there would be no reaction. Then it was meeting time. They pulled me into a room and basically told me that he's not waking up and I should start thinking of how we are going to move forward. Samething if he wakes up his quality of life may not be good. Again I refused to beleive this. I asked the doctors are his kidneys good? Is his heart good? They said oh yes all of his organs are good. I then said good we can continue to wait!!!! I will not give up on him. Fast foward almost two years of continuing to tell doctors my husband is in there and them refusing to beleive me. He is now in a facility still has the trach but he is awake. Completely aware of everything that is being said to him and can respond. He will shake his head yes and no to respond. Still has all of his memories. I'm so glad I did not let the doctors pressure me into giving up on him. If I can give any advise to someone going through this horrible experience, you know your loved one better than any of they doctors caring for them. They can have their medical opinion but you know that person. Never give up hope!!!

My mom had all the odds against her. She had severe copd and emphysema, uncontrolled diabetes, undiagnosed sleep apnea, history of heart disease as a child, and then got Covid when the delta variant was out, July 2021. All She had a was runny nose and watery eyes for the first 2 days, got tested just to make sure she didn't have Covid (she had only left the house 2x in 2 years and was working from home due to her being high risk). She ended up going in to acute respiratory distress syndrome and my dad called 911. She was taken to the ER 2 minutes away from her house (one of the best hospitals) where she went into cardiac arrest (I'm assuming due to pulmonary hypertension and her severe double covid pnuemonia she was very hypoxic and hypercapnic). The Dr tried to tell us she wouldn't make it. Even stating that even if they got her heart beat back she would not recover, that she was just too sick. She was maxed out on vasopressors and I believe even on ECMO at some point. She was intubated as well. Two days later she was weaned off. Due to some other hospital related issues she had a longer stay but long story short- she made it and is still here today. She is now in ICU again after being in LTAC and being neglected, she's recovering again. Hopefully she pulls through and all goes good this time around.

I was in a coma almost 8 years ago. I was in an abusive relationship, and one day I was present in that mess, the next day I was waking up in a hospital bed. Only the bed was not mine, and I was in a very foreign place. I had just woken up after six weeks of being in a coma. I had septic shock to the most extreme degree (I am familiar with the stages of sepsis) which means I was dying. I was on a ventilator with a tricky ostomy. My organ said all shut down, and I had been asleep for 87 days. This is so informative to me. I am subscribing to you right now. Thank you.
