Can international students also do this programme?

Each medical school has its own policy on international student admissions, so it’s important to confirm each school’s policy before you apply.

I am a Nigerian. Wanting to do my SAT so as to study a premed course at Harvard university. Although, I have done some advanced classes in chemistry, physics and a little biochemistry. Can I do MCAT when I become a freshman?
@NextStepTestPrep
@NextStepTestPrep 8 күн бұрын
Hi! Freshman year is much too early to focus on the MCAT. The earliest you should consider taking the exam is the end of your sophomore year, and the latest you want to take it is early May of your application year. Hope this helps!

When can you find time to shadow and volunteer? I am freshman in college.
@NextStepTestPrep
@NextStepTestPrep 2 ай бұрын
Hello! Freshman year is a little early. It would be best to focus on getting involved with your college’s clubs and organizations right now as you get more familiar with college life. Usually, the earliest shadowing would start is sophomore year. Even so, many students don't begin until junior or senior year. It takes time to find a physician willing to let you shadow them. So, enjoy your freshman year! Get involved with undergrad activities and get acclimated to college. Hope this helps!

What is the best pre med major?
@NextStepTestPrep
@NextStepTestPrep 2 ай бұрын
Just like the previous comment said, there's no such thing as the "best" premed major. Some majors provide a solid foundation for concepts you'll see on the MCAT (i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Engineering, etc). Still, ultimately, the best major for a pre-med student is one you are passionate about and can excel in.

I've never used flashcards in my life to study for something because I love handwritten notes, but now that I'm prepping for the mcat I'm trying to learn how to make and use them effectively. It's a scary mcat world out there but you just made my life so much simpler. Thank you!!

You mentioned a Canadian program while leaving out Ohio University's 3 year D.O. program. You are a well known company in the medical field and this is exactly how we continue to perpetuate the bias against osteopathic programs. Please, do better next time.

When I was a college freshman, first semester, professors said books and attendance weren’t required and I didn’t attend class and buy textbooks and failed my first tests and by the end of the first semester I knew how to study but I was a mess in the beginning. There’s no homework. It’s lectures, labs, quizzes, tests, papers, and speeches. I was used to using homework to study and get good grades.

I’m two years ahead, meaning I graduated high school with my associates degree. I’ve heard a large diversity of responses pertaining to my age helping and hurting me when applying to medical school. Any advice?
@NextStepTestPrep
@NextStepTestPrep 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Honestly, out of everything med schools will consider in your application, your age is going to be the LEAST important...by a large factor. MCAT score, GPA, letters of rec, etc. are all way more important than whether you're a few years younger (or older) than everyone else. The one thing that might "hurt" you is your lack of extracurriculars/other experiences outside of the classroom, simply because you might not have had as much time to do other stuff. However, if you have volunteering, clinical, and/or other necessary extracurriculars, you'll be fine! Lastly, while it's true that the average age of med school matriculants has been going up, that's because gap years are becoming more common and students are applying/starting med school later. Plus, applications are more competitive than ever (average score has been steadily going up every year) so more people are applying multiple times and taking longer to get accepted. Tldr; don't stress about it! You've got plenty of time and being ahead of the curve is never a bad thing. Just make sure you're diversifying your life experiences and doing more than just acing your classes! Good luck!

@@NextStepTestPrep any suggestions on good extracurriculars that might look good? I work 2 jobs as of right now, and am working to get into a hospital for the experience. I work with MRDD clients at a group home for one, and the other I just work at krogers.

Hey question regarding the math pre-reqs that you need to fulfill, is it okay that I carry out courses such as a pre-calc course for one semester and stats for the other to meet the requirements in general, or do I have to focus on more rigorous courses considering I have no background with math in grade 11 and 12(as an international student)
@NextStepTestPrep
@NextStepTestPrep 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! The MCAT doesn't allow calculators so there won't be any derivatives / limits needed. It's all mental math, algebra, and some logarithms. If you can master those, you'll be fine with pre-calc and stats.

When will you post the next video for the junior year in pre med education? I'm really excited to attend university soon even though I'm still a junior in high school. Also, as I am still in high school, I am taking the WVU Biology 101 and 103 (lecture and lab) class... Do you think it would be helpful for my freshman year in pre med because its is already counted as a credit before I attend college? (Its counted as a general pre med requirement like you stated in the first video posted in this series)

Love this video!I have a question about the MCAT, As a high school student I plan on graduating high school with my associates degree, meaning I would only have 2 more years of university. Since its best to take the MCAT Junior year then get results senior year, Would this mean I wold have to take the MCAT my freshmen year?
@NextStepTestPrep
@NextStepTestPrep 3 жыл бұрын
It's possible! You should at least make sure you have completed the prerequisites (intro level courses in gen chem, organic chem, physics, psychology, etc) before testing. If you are planning to apply to medical school your second year, then yes, you will probably want to take it you first year. Hope this helps!
