Wrong bell. Thats a GE Bell and DA1431 is a Clyde Engineering/EMD locomotive. Shouldnt it have an emd steel bell?

Another idea is to set back to the station and go for the hill second time. In this case Ja1250 has a very light load up the grade for this 1200hp narrow gauge engine 😀

Delicious. In Cuba we have its littler sister, G8, and is our most reliable engine. 68 years old without overhauling and there they are. We have lost many of them in accidents but the living ones are the most loved locos on my country.

Nice presentation of this outstanding organisation. I live in the Netherlands but visited NZ twice yet, and I was impressed by the amount of railway preservation going on, and also by the welcoming atmosphere in most of the groups. There was no place where we couldn't get access to see the collection, even when there were just some volunteers working on a non running day, and on one occasion we even were invited on the footplate for a trip when a loco was under test. At Steam Inc at Paekakariki we could walk and look around in their workshops and sidings, and very surprisingly I met someone also from the Netherlands who I knew, he was volunteer at the same preserved railway in the Netherlands as I was! That was a very big coincidence to meet him at the other end of the world, if it was a lottery ticket I would have had the jackpot.

Nice footage. The Ja looked superb and seemed to run well. I am somewhat bemused by the commentator’s reference to “an amazing departure….” and “…an amazing display”. It looked fairly standard to me, this is what steam locomotives usually look like and nothing “amazing” about it at all!
@railsaotearoa2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the footage 1271 has to be the best Ja mechanically at the moment. But amazing to non-railfans or people who don't know what a steam engine is when they see a departure that us steam buffs are accustom too. Look out for more great videos over the next few weeks and thanks for commenting.
