Has it been geared up, she's fairly cracking on. I think Ford p/p engine was governed to about 1100rpm, the 4LW runs 1700rpm so that will make a difference.

These tractors could really move along they had nice hi ratio road gears for the long distances between shed and field. Lots were used in my area as cane haul outs towing 10-20 ton of cut cane.

Got some power then. In normal hp conversation. How many hp would a 10nhp engine be?
@WMS345 Жыл бұрын
14 bhp = 1 nhp
@mattseymour8637 Жыл бұрын
@@WMS345 Thanks that's helpful! But of course that would still be quite low for a traction engine BHP wise but because they have tons of Torque that makes them very powerful.
@mattseymour86376 жыл бұрын
Thanks what HP is it?

It could easily be changed to burn a mixture of ethanol and vegetable oils, as this mixture should have similar characteristics to petrol diesel mix

@Threetails If you are interested Jay Lenos garage has a lot of video on his Vanderbuilt Stanley and his Doble. Modern steam try Cyclone power They have used orange oil but the fuel has to be with in a range for "pumpability" and flash point.
@Threetails13 жыл бұрын
@fizzguts Point taken. I shouldn't have had the same expectations for a Stanley Steamer that I'd have for a modern steam engine.
@fizzguts13 жыл бұрын
@Threetails what I responded to "at least it doesn't depend on oil industry to run around." Repeating THIS SPECIFIC steam car is a Stanley Vanderbilt cup replica running a vaporizing burner. The burner will ONLY run on a specific range of petroleum fuels set by the boiling point and coking point . Kerosene is ideal, a petrol diesel mix is a reasonable substitute. It is possible to make burners to burn a wider range of fuels. The burner in THIS vehicle DOES NOT have that capability
@Threetails13 жыл бұрын
@fizzguts A steam engine does not necessarily have to burn petroleum derivatives. Most of them can run fine on anything from corn oil to hog fat. Unlike an internal combustion engine, they're not fuel-specific. If it burns, it turns.
