Out of curiosity, do you check moisture content in the wood before creating the bowl? How much time did you put into the project? It looks amazing! Great job!
@EamonWalshDIY14 күн бұрын
Hi John, no I did not check the moisture content. The piece had been drying indoors for a little over two years before use. It only took a few hours to complete once I got the hang of the cutter.

How long does the wood need to dry before making bowl? Thanks!

It depends on the type of wood and where its drying Donna. This ash had been drying in a shed for a little over 2 years.

I use a speedcutter from Graff. It attaches to an angle grinder and carves the wood away. Be very careful if using such tools.

It took a few hours once you get used to using the disc. They can be very dangerous to use so be very careful and use all ppe

Yo, penny roof architect! 🏠💰 Turning spare change into a miniature masterpiece? That's not just crafting - that's next-level creativity. Imagine tiny copper shingles gleaming like a million-dollar micro-mansion, each penny perfectly aligned to create an architectural marvel that would make Frank Lloyd Wright do a double-take.

Hi Victor, thanks for watching. I used a flap disc for most of the sanding,

My understanding, we glue lathes together to prevent the wood from warping or cracking. How does your bowls look after 10-20 years?
@EamonWalshDIYАй бұрын
Hi Justin, using smaller pieces and gluing would definitely reduce the chance of cracking or splitting. They are only 4 years old so I will have to get back to you in 10 years to see what they look like.

Did your foundation get inspected by building control Have never seen anything like it
@EamonWalshDIYАй бұрын
Hi, no it didn't. No planning permission required as its size is under the permitted floor area and height regulations. (Ireland)
@macsmith6216Ай бұрын
@@EamonWalshDIY Same here in the the U.K. but you still have to apply for a building warrant, still has to be inspected by a building surveyor from the council at each stage of the build so it confirms with building regs And the council can charge you an arm and a leg

I have a beautiful slice of tabletop made by my father and I 40 years ago from our visit to the California Redwoods. We had a base for it until I moved to the UK for 6 months (30 yrs ago) - kept the top but too expensive to ship the tree trunk base. Ever since I have been looking for a suitable base and having found something similar to your table that design will work perfectly. Sadly the example I found was too high as the top is quite thick and cutting the top and bottom shorter would not work. Anyway, I can cut them to the height I need ! YAY THANK YOU 🥰🥰🥰
