I requested a rack grade from their latest batch listed back in October this year. I got the rifle 2 months later and from what I see it’s basically a service/field grade. ME/TE far exceeded rack grade expectations in a good way. Overall a better quality rifle then advertised can’t complain. Only thing about it though was the stock was a newer commercial stock probably put on 10 years ago. Was hoping for some authentic nice dark wood and dings.

@@Wisconsin-Ordnance no. I had to call them multiple times, each time no follow-up. I have been tracking my account daily, and yesterday I saw they had posted my M1 in the past transactions part of my purchase history. That transaction has a date from four weeks ago, but was just put on the website. It was a comedy of delays, runs-around, poor communication and lack of follow through. The staffers had charming accents, however. I am looking forward to having the Garand, but it has definitely been an ordeal.

They heyday of CMP Garand sales is long past. In 2000, CMP offered a deal where if you came to Camp Perry and fired the Garand Match, they would provide you with a specially prepared M1. If you fired the match with that rifle, you could buy it for $500. If you Bought the rifle, you could buy all the Lake City 30-06 ball you could carry home for 5 cents a round. Needless to say, I did both. I think I bought 5,000 rounds. The Danish Garands and ammunition was another glory moment in CMP history. My most accurate M1 sports a VAR barrel. Then came the Greek era. I did splurge for a couple of the HRA final-manufacture rifles with all brand-new HRA parts and a CMP stock. Those last HRA rifles incorporated the latest and best improvements and changes to the M1 rifles. In those days, CMP had literally tons of M1 and M14 parts for sale. The M14 parts were mostly brand new. The Coast Guard was the last organization to officially retire the M1 from active service. To their eternal discredit, the Coast Guard took thousands and thousands of perfectly functioning M1s and demilitarized them by welding.

Yep, back in the 90's and early 2000s all the M1's I received were very similar to yours, and those were luck of the draw, coming directly out of the Army storage crates. I don't remember paying more than $495 for any of them from CMP, I had 30 Garands at one time, all would have graded Field + or Service grade, once CMP started that Grading system to adjust pricing. My last 2 USGI keepers are an all-correct H&R w TE and MW 0, still has packing grease in the action (now it would be on the CMP Auction site), and a Springfield that appears to have been re Arsenal'd with all beautiful birch wood, Square boxed proof "P" ( I was told that Augusta Arsenal specific, I don't know, TE and MW <1, and one all correct and "matching" Italian Breda, NOT put together from a kit, like was happening when GFCC was importing receivers a few at time and you could buy the complete Italian (less receiver) parts kits from AIM, of course none of those would have had the correct matching numbered or manufacturing markings. Never saw a Garand I didn't like, well almost those poorly made CAI reproduction and cobbled together Garands were less than desirable.

Definitely a usgi replacement stock and the handguard is very likely original. I'd be willing to bet the stock put on it when it went through one of its many rebuilds. Good wartime production serial number and that stock could be real pretty with a nice strip buff and stain followed by a couple of coats of oil.

You are doing a disservice by telling viewers this is what they can expect when ordering a Service Grade in 2024. This rifle is top tier for 2024. The stock has not been sanded or stripped. It's birch and was likely put on the rifle the same time the new barrel was installed in the 60's. It was never darker than it is now.

You could get better or could get worse than this rifle when it comes down to it. Either way it’s a gamble on exact condition, for all I know mine could be the worst service grade they have or the best. I’m simply sharing insight to give viewers an idea of what a service grade looks like.

Got lucky in an auction for that one. It’s a bit beat up and is missing the accessories. Trying to find an original scope and mount for a non ridiculous price
