I think this is not the full story and may be short sighted. Yes, the Levite man did let his concubine be abused to the point of death but it was the old man Owner of the house that first offered his own daughter AND the wife of the Levite to protect the men in the home. Why was he willing to protect the life of a stranger over his own family? There's more to this story, and why did the inhabitants want to attack the Levite in the first place and not the old man as well?
