🧧The Origin of #LionDance 🦁 Long long time ago, a creature called "👹 #Nian 👹", would haunt the villages every year on Chinese New Years Eve. Although Nian did not harm people, it would destroy all the crops in the villages. One year, the villagers decided they've had enough and needed to take action. They gathered everyone around, with farm tools as weapons. They also used bamboo, paper mache, multi-coloured cloths sewn together to make a #lion , and banged drums, cymbals and gongs, as well as light firecrackers to scare Nian away. Nian no longer haunt the villages. From then on, the villagers turned this into an annual event, and gave each other red packets as a way to wish everyone a good year ahead.🦁

阿弥陀佛

相传这庙的前身，是宋共公祭祀祖先的宗庙。晋武帝司马炎诏令诸侯祭祀界内山川之神，沛国郭云奉诏修建。 西晋太康五年（284），武帝司马炎下诏，令各国诸侯祀界内山川，为此，地方主管沛国令郭卿主持兴建相山庙，以供奉相山之神，并立石刻铭曰:“巍巍相山，盘郁穹崇，上应房心，与天灵冲，兴云播雨，稼穑以丰。”在史书上“相山庙”之名最早见于《魏书·地形志》。　　 相山庙供奉的本是相山神，后来不知何时改称“明上王”。北宋神宗元丰八年（1075）敕赐“显通庙”额；微宗宣和五年（1123）敕封相山神为“崇惠侯”；刘齐阜昌二年（1131，宋高宗绍兴元年）又加封“显济王”；清康熙年间称该庙为“显济王庙”。现今官方称其为“显通寺”。而广大民众仍习惯称其本名“相山庙”。

Oriental Cultural Community Service Centre (OCCSC), a non-profit, autonomous organization, officially registered with the Government in Edmonton in 2013. OCCSC is a leading Chinese community to promote healthy lifestyle. OCCSC's mission is to inherit and carry forward traditional Chinese culture, and to provide high-quality and low-cost social, cultural and sport activities to the community, and to promote seniors, immigrants and low-income people to live proactively and stay healthy. OCCSC has been growing quickly and becoming a predominantly new community in Edmonton in the previous years. Members come from different places, speaking different languages and dialects. We quickly become good friends because we share the common interest, similar value, and the same goal. During the past, our activities have expended dramatically, including Tai Ji 24 forms, Taiji 48 forms, Zumba fitness, folk dance, ballroom dance, fashion show, Chinese calligraphy, recital, yoga, hiking, volleyball, singing and various seminars. In the past years, we have actively served the community. We have provided volunteer performances at annual Edmonton International Heritage Festival, senior homes, schools, the Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration show. We have raised fund for the people in the disaster areas. In the past several years, we have organized a variety of cultural and recreational activities. We organized the Chinese Food Festival during the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. We visited Germany commune. We have also organized various annual activities such as the graduation ceremony, the summer hiking trip, the "family day" in the park, the Christmas and New Year's parties. We have achieved tremendously! In the future, OCCSC will carry its mission to promote Oriental culture in Canada, to encourage the cultural exchanges among various ethnic groups, to contribute to the multiculturalism in Canada. Melbourne 930 gets some love! Melbourne 930 is a W6 class tram from Melbourne, Australia. Built in 1947 and in service in Melbourne until 1998, 930 is a refined variant of the standard W-class tram that first went in to production in 1923. 930 is more modern than our wooden Edmonton cars (namely Edmonton 33), with partial steel construction, a relay-based controller system, and an elaborate air-operated door system.
