I'm currently using the 850 gallon smart pond filter system. It helps, but it's not adequate. I drain 1/2 of the pond water out and refill when the algae makes the water cloudy. I have well water so this seems to work ok.

That melon looks right for picking already...20 more days will be around August 13th, do you think that it might hold out until Sept. 2-Labor Day? How long does it take for a watermelon to fully mature?

The Carolina Cross variety can grow 65 to 100 days after pollination till fruit set. But in Florida most likely 50 days max, due to the hot climate.

Looks great Rob and Tom. If you've done all of that work in 6 months and working a full time job...when do you sleep? So glad you took us on a tour from the outside, into the house. Your workmanship is awesome, the rustic look makes me wish I had done things different when I bought this old house in Chelsea. Don't let any moss grow under those feet. Thanks for sharing.

Good to see you guys wearing new good-luck hats. Always a fun time floating on a river with a rod in hand, an even better time when a fish takes the bait and stays on the hook even if it gets away at the last minute. I do hope to see you catch a Gator just to see how you remove the hook.

I will let Rob remove the hooks from the gators jaws. That trip wasn't a long one. It was more to see how the boat ran after I put a carburetor kit and a new fuel pump. Boat ran nice and I always enjoy being on the water.

My 1st pumpkin of 2023 just sprouted a root, will be breaking the surface in the pot in a day or two. Ramparts are almost ready to graft to the melons, long gourds just shot a root too.videos within a week for the new season.

130 feet is really not very deep, looks like you guys have no excuse to set the state record for growing the biggest watermelon in Florida in 2023. The water sure did look clear, nice, and cool too I imagine. Sure wish that you had videoed the drilling, would have made for a great YT video. Watch and report how much your electric bill goes up for a month. Are you gonna build a well house over it?

Well..............I never. Dad use to always catch turtles in big baskets that he made for catching fish and often found only parts of fish remains and a couple of fat turtles waiting on their next victim.

Poor little worms. Poor poor worms. I feel so sorry for them. If you are going to throw the fish back, why not just throw the poor little worms into the water instead of sticking them with a sharp hook? Are worms good to eat do they taste good? Birds eats worms and so do some people. I will nit eata worm.

Rob's second try was good, looks like he ran into the river bank the first time. I like it when I see someone gives me a thumbs up, that means good ok great . I going to give Rob a thumb up for not running into the bank again and for not hitting that black truck. Oh boy and thumb up again if Rob does a boat flip with out falling out for the turtle to eat him or a big fish do pumpkins float?

Any pumpkin over 50 pounds is big to me... the same for watermelon, I hope to see you guys break another Florida State Record next year for a watermelon or maybe for a BIG Bass. Try fishing with pumpkin meat, Bok might be right. You never know till you try.

You germinate the rampart 1st ( rootstock ) when it breaks the soil you germinate the Carolina cross melons next. You do this for grafting purposes so the stalk is a bit larger than the melon. Once the melon seedling spouts the 1st true leaf it is ready to graft. You cut the melon stalk 3/4" below the cod leaf's 2 sides at 45 degrees. Cut the rootstock 1st true leaf off split the stem 3/8" depth insert the prepped melon into the splice and crimp together, keep in closed plastic container out of sun and heat for a week or 2 to give it time to graft.
