what is the small rock thing in the lagged bowl? and how to get this kind of "lagged bowl"?
@ChemTL
@ChemTL Ай бұрын
The small rock material is called Vermiculite. We make the lagged bowls by using two Pyrex Basins of different sizes, filling the gap with vermiculite then sealing it in with some tubing.

@@ChemTL Is the function for the lagged bowl to prevent the temperature of the bath quickly balance with ambient temperature? and is the tubing sealing necessary?

Insane that they use a Luer *SLIP* syringe instead of Luer Lock syringe. Apply a little too much force when you bend the needle in the U shape and you could pop the needle out and expose it to air. Nice way to make a flame thrower!

Whilst i fully agree luer lock is definitely safer, imo a dry well connected slip tip isn't too crazy if you know the liquid to draw isn't super viscous and make sure that the joint is supported/clamped together with a hand during the inversion and expulsion. The latter was very heavily stressed/drilled into me when I was there. Sometimes getting the smaller volume disposables in luer lock can be trickier, and I assume they used this as a demonstration to cover all bases and teach good technique should someone only have a slip tip available. I also think it might be n-BuLi in the video; for sure I wouldn't personally be going near tert-BuLi with a slip tip. Also agree that adding a protective layer of inert gas would be better.

Hey, maybe you can come to my house to convert codeine into morphine and morphine into diacetylmorphine. It doesn’t have to be a yes right this second, I’ll settle for a maybe. All I ask is you just think about it. 😏

Que est le le rôle de MgSO4?
@anamendoza6741
@anamendoza6741 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, don't speak portuguese. But the role is that, if you use anhydrous MgSO4, it will remove the water particles that may still be present in your organic solution (thus "drying" it). It's drying ability is high and its rate is fast, so its aplicability is for all general purposes. Other drying agents like calcium chloride only work on hydrocarbons and halogenated compounds.
