Ok so in Japanese original, Tobias credited Ash's Gible saying Draco Meteor would be super effective on his every other pokemon other than Darkrai. Meaning, Tobias had full of Dragon team. Also confirmed with Latios appearing. As of Gen 4, Dragon Pokemon are: Dragonite, Altaria, Salamence, Latios, Latias, Rayquaza, Garchomp, Kingdra and Flygon Considering Latios and Latias are inseperable he got both. Rayquaza fits him as a final boss if Ash ever faced him in the final of the world championship series. But Rayquaza is out of anyone's league at the moment. Kingdra, Flygon and Altaria would be sub-par to the pseudos therefore Salamence, Garchomp, Dragonite, Latios, Latias and Darkrai would be Tobias' final team. Plus you must consider Tobias' pokemon being like 100 level and the Ash's best Pokemon like Sceptile and Pikachu to be around 50-55 considering how many hits Latios took before finally going down.

Gen 6 Arbok disrespecting the champion, gen Let's go Lickitung doing the same, these games must be for babies. Gen 8 seemed to be difficult due to extremely undewhelming mons more than champion difficulty, the guy seems more interested in winning a prize at the Fashion Week than being the best trainer in his region (and Charizard, again? Seriously can't they stop putting it everywhere? I love Charizard but it's too much pandering, or at least give him a shiny version to justify its' presence). Gen 9 seemed mid. Really difficulty-wise it seems 5 was peak Pokemon, recent games have improved movepools and mechanics but forgotten that Pokemon players are not Teletubbies watchers anymore. Any gym leader in XY seems more dangerous than the region's champion thanks to coverage...

It’s stuff like this, PLUS the fact that Blastoise has multiple TCG tops including a Worlds win in ‘06, PLUS the fact that Kosaku Miyamoto won VGC Worlds with him in ‘22, PLUS the fact that he’s ALWAYS been viable both in game & competitive (including as recent as this month, check out Thomas DeRosas team from the Louisville Regionals last week Oct 2024) THAT ALL collectively can successfully be used to silence the haters.
