This is a great video for me as a newb to all of this, thanks! I’m just a homeowner & landlord, not really looking to buy a whole jetting machine. What would you recommend, if anything, for say a 3200 psi pressure washer? I have root problems ~65’ down my 100’ sewer drain (where my PVC meets old clay under my driveway). Does the Reaper work with that (could also use on my kitchen drain for grease etc)? I’m also thinking Warthog for attacking it from the manhole side since the problem is closer to there. Thanks!
@JETTERSnorthwest12 күн бұрын
Before I can recommend Reaper vs. Warthog vs. RootRanger -- what is your pressure-washer's GPM rating? 3200psi is good velocity but it doesn't tell us what GPM-flow you have to work with. Think of the GPM as the size of the axe in your jetter's hands; a 5-pound axe (5gpm) will hit the root-mass much harder than a 3-lb (3-GPM) axe -- and the PSI represents how fast it can swing that axe ("velocity"). Another point: the actual water-streams from the nozzle are "wider" at 5+GPM so they penetrate deeper at the same PSI, plus they "carry" further in larger pipes than "skinnier" low-GPM water-streams do. This is why Root-Cutting/descaling nozzles like the WARTHOG, REAPER, ROOT-RANGER, etc. all perform poorly with less than 5-GPM, and much better with 8-GPM (or more) like the major "rooter" types use

The only thing I don’t like about this set up is hose is over the muffler. But easy to relocate
@JETTERSnorthwestАй бұрын
Yes that is a removable "extension" to the actual muffler which is mounted inboard on the engine; we install that extension so that the exhaust will blow out the van-door if the operator wants to leave the jetter in the van while jetting. Indeed, many operators that hard-mount their jetter in a van will remove the "exhaust-extension" and then run exhaust-piping from the muffler down thru the floor of the van to the outside
@davesouza9707Ай бұрын
Why don’t you just put 5’ black leader hose on the end of the hose
@JETTERSnorthwestАй бұрын
Yes indeed we do offer orange-colored leader-hoses (typically 10') to warn you that the nozzle is near -- it's an optional item for the Brute Jetters (it is included with our Eagle Trailer-Jetter models). However, a lot of operators don't like to use them in sewers/drains with elbows because when the 2 hose-end fittings are screwed together it makes for a 2x long fitting that can stall in an elbow, thus we don't include a leader-hose on all models. We can do black-color any length you want (1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1" sizes), or the "Safety-Orange" color is available in 10', 15, 20', or 100' (3/8" or 1/2"): shop.jettersnorthwest.com/collections/jetter-hose/products/leader-hose?variant=127821086723

Will a building's water pressure affect (defeat) the GMP of a Unit ? I'm thinking of buying a 14 GPM unit with 2200 PSI for clearing grease drain clogs in PVC pipes. I also heard that PSI should be close to (or Compliment) the GPM flow rate. Asking about that too ;) Thanks!
@JETTERSnorthwest3 ай бұрын
(1) Any jetter that puts out more GPM than the building can provide will need a water-tank to work as a "buffer" between the flow-rate in GPM that the building can provide, compared to the flow-rate in GPM that the jetter wants to consume at full throttle. Jetters cannot suck out extra water from the building to feed their GPM-rate; the building - or the water-tank - needs to be able to provide the jetter the GPM-amount that it wants to drink. (2) yes the PSI should compliment the GPM. Essentially, the PSI relates to the SPEED of the water-jets from the jetter's nozzle, while the GPM of course is the mass or volume of the water-jets. A simple metaphor that explains the relationship is: the GPM is the size of the hammer in the jetter's hands, and the PSI is how fast it can swing the hammer. The GPM/PSI specs should be chosen based on the pipe-diameters you will het the most. 14gpm at 2200psi is about 25-horsepower and would be great for 6-inch service-lines, but if you will primarily jet 4-inch (the most common here) then at that horsepower I'd rather have a bit more PSI at a little less GPM, such as 10gpm/3000psi. What pipe-sizes do you plan to TYPICALLY jet?
@TaeKenDo3 ай бұрын
@@JETTERSnorthwest Thanks for the info. Am jetting 3-4" but mostly 3" kitchen floor drains with grease.
@JETTERSnorthwest3 ай бұрын
For primarily 3", plus some 4", I would DEFINITELY recommend going with less GPM and more PSI because 14gpm/2200psi requires 1/2" jetting-hose to be effective, but you'll be needing to use smaller-diameter hoses like 1/4", 5/16", 3/8" to jet through the small 3" lines, and tough entries/corners in 4". Using those smaller hoses will SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the nozzle-pressure of a 14/2200 jetter , but a 4000psi jetter with 8+GPM would maximize the effectiveness of those smaller hoses, and still provide enough GPM for jetting occasional 6" pipes

I get it if you're wrestling with 1/2" vs. 3/8" for a 12gpm jetter; I recommend considering first what pipe-sizes you'll need the hose to go thru the most. Recently a customer bought our 12gpm/3000psi Brute-3012 jetter with 1/2" hose and he called in to say how much he was struggling... turns out that 70%+ of what he jets is 3" and the rest is 4", so he HAD to at least step down to 3/8" hose to get thru cleanouts and turns in the 3" pipe. He would have been much better served by our Brute-4009 that's 9gpm/4000psi with 3/8" hose as standard that can maintain 3500psi at the nozzle - and it's 4000psi can push more GPM out of 3/16", 1/4" and 5/16" mini-hoses for jetting smaller indoor drains. But, he bought the 12gpm with 1/2" as he simply thought "more power" and wanted the ability to jet 6" & 8" ... however he doesn't have that kind of work yet, and 12gpm is overkill for the 3" pipe he jets the most

Thanks for sharing your experience!! Nozzle Extension use is almost ZERO in the "service jetting" industry among rooter-type jetting operators with 1/2" or 3/8" hoses. People need to be made aware of the potential danger of a jetting-nozzle turning around and flying back out of the pipe when they jet 8-inch and larger lines -- AND -- how using a simple & cheap Nozzle-Extension is excellent practice to help protect operators and bystanders from that danger!!

Hi does the jetter turn on at all? If it does not run at all it may be the Ground-Fault interrupter within the power-cord. But if it does run, connect water and run it WITHOUT a nozzle for a while (hold the hose tightly so it doesn't get away from you!!) because a common issue with small electric-powered jetters is if any of the orifice-holes in the nozzle plugs then the motor kicks off to protect itself, or it stops-and-starts thinking that you have closed the ball-valve for a moment. If it runs fine without nozzle then check/clear all the orifices in all of the jetter's nozzles. Let us know !

1.5gpm-2gpm at around 1800psi is solid if you're talking results from a small 120-volt electric-powered jetter, and you can add a good rotating grease/sludge nozzle to deal with bonded buildup. But if you can connect the mini/trap jetting hose to a larger gasoline or propane engine-powered jetter then you can jump up to around 5gpm and 3000+psi for far better cleaning-power - especially if dealing with tough grease

For cutting out roots? And what is your jetter's GPM/PSI specs? The #6 is maximum 6-GPM if you have a 4000psi machine, or it yields about 5-GPM at 3000psi... that'd be relatively weak GPM-impact - do you have a higher-GPM jetter??

OK with a 4-GPM machine the REAPER #6 will "only" build about 2000-2500 PSI which will still do some light cutting. We can improve that PSI to ~3000 by customizing it from standard 4 rear thrust-jets down to 3 rear thrust-jets, but that'll reduce the Reaper's ability to pull itself and the hose into the pipe so I'd only recommend that if the pipe-distance is under 75'. Bottom line: it'll be slow-going bit it will do root-cutting for you, but it might miss roots at top of the pipe due to the low 4-GPM input. Hope that helps -- let us know!

Urinals are fickle as you know - it depends on the design. If the urinal/drain has a smooth/bending flow-path then the nozzle+hose can typically be worked thru the pipe's curves, but if the urinal has a blocky flow-path then the nozzle likely will hit a "road-block" and you'll have to pull it

It depends on the hardness of the blockage: Yes for the common "soft" clogs these small electric-powered Drain Invader jetters can blast thru blockages that a small snake can -- plus the jetter scours & flushes the pipe.
