Thanks to your video, I no longer need to call out a plumber for this. Many thanks.

If you have a running flush yes it's usually the small seal which hitted. If that doesn't work the float valve may be unrepairable. The float pushes up a lever that operates a small white pip in the seal. Unfortunately there is a tiny rubber seal in the float pivot arm. If that seal goes you will need a whole new float valve.

Before you replace the unit get a rag or sponge into the socket. Clean off any grot so the rubber bears down onto a clean surface. If any grot gets between the mating face it can leak.

my problem is that while putting in a new valve fixes it, it's only temporary. i bought a 2 pack a month ago and a 5 pack of diaphragms a week ago and i've already used 5 out of 7 of them. they work and fix the leak for a couple days and then it starts again. the leak is a constant torrent and i'm having to use the shut off valve every time i need to flush. lifting up on the bar doesn't solve it so i'm out of ideas what it could be.

Thanks so much for posting this. Both seals were damaged on mine after 12 years. The edges of the flush seal had crumbled away over time, and the diaphragm, although visually sound, had a pin hole in it. The flush seal was out of stock in 5 places I tried, but my local Wolseley came up trumps for both items. The replacement flush seal is actually white & the diaphragm is the same minus the little ribs. The SVO1967 flush mechanism has apparently been discontinued now, but the seals can still be sourced at the moment. I bought spare items just in case. Both work perfectly. Top work sir! 👏👏👏

I took off the outflow flush valve and the seal was badly deteriorated. However as I took the seal off I accidentally turned the mechanism and the internal column came out. I tried to put it back in again but it won't stay in and when I tried to test the pad for the button when pushed down now doesn't do anything. Do I need to have the new seal on or have I messed it up completely?
@freehansa7 ай бұрын
If the flush mechanism is not working, after you put the whole thing back, then it is likely that it has gone faulty. Just replacing the seal may not work in this scenario. You may need to replace the whole thing.

You, sir, are a life-saver. The toilet was driving me nuts as it would be constantly re-filling (mostly at night, for some reason - I think it was doing it deliberately to annoy me! 😄). I finally got around to fixing after seeing my latest water bill! 😬 I'd always thought that plumbing was some dark art, but this was so simple to do, so thank you, thank you, you've probably saved me a small fortune over the next few years. 👍🏻

If your on a water meter it will push your usage bill up hugely. Remember it will run leaking 24/7.

I have the same inlet valve and had the same problem with replacing the diaphragm. Except in my case I had to use the one with the ribbed pattern. Using the other one, even with the raised edge left the cistern continually filling.

Mate you’re a legend. Our ensuite toilet has been overflowing like this for god knows how long. At least a year since we moved in i guess, but these past few months its been really troubling me to the point of losing sleep over it and being reluctant to call a plumber to pay plumber prices for what i assumed would be a simple fix. I had already tried the first fix which didn’t work but the second solution did the charm so thank you so much for providing the knowledge and giving me the confidence to fix it. I can now sleep without hearing a distant trickle/ hissing noise!!
